Three of the Five-Rise Locks at Bingley designed by John Longbotham of Halifax and built in 1774. It is the steepest lock staircase in Britain lifting the Leeds and Liverpool Canal 18 metres up the Aire Valley.

After a visiting the summit in March 2013 with snow, ice, thick cloud and no views I decided to try again, this time with more success. This indicator shows the direction of the most important hills that can be seen in clear weather from the summit of Lochnagar height 1,154m (3786 ft) and was erected by the Cairngorm Club Aberdeen 1924

Woolsthorpe Manor in Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, near Grantham, Lincolnshire, England. The birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton on 25 December 1642. The house is now administered by the National Trust and open to the public from spring to autumn. This image was taken with a wide-angle lens and converted to b&w.

Bostadh Iron Age reconstructed house, Bernera, Isle Of Lewis. The reconstructed house was erected in 1998/9. It is based on a nearby excavated Norse settlement from around 500 AD [130413080_1_2_tnedf]

Moonset Kem Mill Lane, Whittle-le-Woods, Lancs. Taken on my morning walk (Fri 29th March 2013). It shows the almost full moon (that was yesterday) setting in the west. It was a wonderfully clear and cold morning at -4degC.

Withnell Fold Methodist Church, Lancashire

Built by Thomas Blinkhorn Parke in 1852 as a day school and Sunday Church. By 1897 the school was too small for the children of the nearby village of Withnell Fold so a new school was build in the village. The Chapel continues.

The church dates back to c1150 on a pre-Norman site. I visited it on a lovely cold clear day but unfortunately it was locked so I couldn't get a look inside.

When the weather is bad the high summits in Scotland can be very dangerous. The frozen hard snow was good for crampons but the lack of visibility and thick cloud was the main problem. A good old fashioned compass is the best friend in places like this. On the way down I met a group of 6 walkers heading up. They didn't have any crampons and only one ice axe between them. I suggested they turn back as soon as they reached the frozen snow.
