The two tallest buildings in Oslo, seen from the ground with an ultra wide angle (17mm) lens.
Oslo Plaza Hotel (currently officially called Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel) to the left, 37 floors and 117 meters tall, is Oslo's and Norway's tallest building. The old Post Office Tower (Posthuset, also still known by the old name "Postgirobygget") on the right is 111 meters and 26 floors tall, and Oslo's and Norway's second tallest building. Now an office / commercial building. Glimpsed between them is Galleri Oslo, a failed 90's mall / bus station, who's fate still is unsecure.

Oslo Street Art - part of the T&J Artwalk Oslo Edition 2011.

"Some of the world’s leading street artists are coming to Oslo from 1 to 19 August 2011 to show their support for Human Rights Watch by conducting an Art Walk and memorial murals to honour the victims of the terror of July 22. The artists will decorate the facades of nine central buildings covering more than 600 square meters of high quality art for everyone to enjoy."
There's now calls for the murals to become permanent.

Gjevillvatnet, Oppdal, Norway - Trollheimen

View from the cabin Gjevilvasshytta over the lake Gjevillvatnet. The cabin, which during the season is a manned cabin in the Norwegian Trekking Association's network, is a good start point for the trek known as "Trekanten" (The Triangle) in the mountain range Trollheimen close to Oppdal in Sør-Trøndelag.
Seen on the other side of the lake here, are the mountain tops (left to right) Nonsfjellet, Okla, and on the right side of the lake Gjevillvasskamben.
The cabin is at 710 meters above sea level - a good start point for the trek, which will take you up to 1,300 meters above sea level, or 1,600 meters, if you choose the more challenging paths.
The image was shot right after I awoke, before I had breakfast. I looked out of the bedroom window, and saw this beautiful scene and the lovely light, and headed straight out to capture it.
I naturally have some good pics from the eight our hike as well, but this is the ONE!

Yup, I didn't take a single exposure on this day. Not even an Evernote snapshot of a shopping list on the camera phone. Not even one of my silly "Walking in Norway" pics.

I continued for a few days, but after missing another day two weeks later, I decided to call it a day.
Its been fun, and a little bit demanding, and I've learned from the experience. I most certainly have changed my camera carrying habits. Perhaps my photography has improved from the exercise, too.

From Hovdehytta, a cabin used by the Norwegian opposition forces during the war, now run as a self-service cabin by the Norwegian Trekking Association (Turistforeningen), the overview of Asker is great. From here you can see five of the regions of Norway - Akershus, Oslo, Buskerud, Vestfold and Østfold..

Last year in review. Here's the 36 most "interesting" images, based on your feedback and Flickr's algorithms.
I started out trying to do a "Project 365" - I made it through 2/3 of the year. Still, a valuable experience.
2011 turned out to be a terrible year for Norway, with the extremely hateful terror attacks on 22. July. There's evidence of that in my photos from that period, of course.
Flickr was great fun for a while, and I've learned a lot from participating here, in many ways. I feel its time to find other venues now, but post a few pics from time to time. For now, those of you using Instagram will find me with the same nick there.

22. July 2011 in Oslo was, we thought, and as I've mentioned earlier, going to end up in the chronicles mainly as a very rainy day, based on the weather forecasts.

Other than that, it was just a lazy Friday in the period where a large number of Norwegians are having their summer holidays. I was back at work for two weeks. Having a small errand uptown, I took my lunch break - late, as I ended up having lots to do earlier - and travelled to Stortinget subway station. Due to the rain I didn't walk.

At the back of my mind, I had an idea of getting some nice illustration photos of people battling the heavy rain, so I brought the camera backpack. Having bought the book I was out to get, I took a few pics - but felt a bit disappointed, as the worst rain had ceased. This wasn't the kind of pouring rain I had envisioned.

This photo, showing the junction of Akersgata and Grensen, was taken at 14:10 o'clock.
Again, due to the rain, I didn't take the route I normally do between here and my job, which is to walk past the government blocks - I headed for the subway instead.

I bought myself a falafel as a late lunch when I got back to work, consuming it at my desk. Shortly after I'd finished the food, there was a loud boom somewhere outside, like nothing I've heard before. I physically felt it.

One month after the terror attacks on Oslo and Utøya, there's still flowers being placed on central places in town. Here the old fountain at Youngstorget, with a clear view to the damaged government buildings in the background, and at the same time the street vendors on the plaza have taken up their trading.
