Grande Riviere beach, Trinidad. This female was still on the beach at 6 am. Most nest from 6 pm to 6 am, when you can't be on the beach without a guide. It was too dark at night to video or photograph - you're not allowed to use any lights so no flashes, so I was glad there were a few stragglers in the morning. She just finished laying her eggs and is camouflaging the nest of 60 to 120 eggs to protect it from stray dogs (pot hounds), vultures (cobos) and humans.

The Burmis Tree

This is known as the most photographed tree in Canada. It is located on Hwy 3 just as you're entering the Crowsnest Pass through the Rocky Mountains. It's a limber pine and has been dead for about a decade or so, but is thought to be around 700 yrs. old. I took the liberty of cloning out the wooden support which keeps the lower branch in place, broken by vandals in 2004.
