No Eurasian collared dove body found, but plenty of feathers left in our yard. It may have been a cat or a raptor of some sort, but I didn't see what happened.

I like the Eurasian collared doves. They're nice looking birds, but they have taken over way to much and are considered an invasive species. It's becoming more rare to see mourning doves now that, I assume, are being crowded out by the newcomers. And so it goes...

A detail of our Xmas tree this year. Some of our favorite ornaments include the Puget Sound ferries such as the Steilicoom and Anderson Island ones. They were given to us from Deb's grade school co-workers in Steilicoom where she worked while I spent my final year in the Air Force at McChord AFB.

What can I say, Rocket is a photogenic dog and a joy (and fun) to photograph.

While I am watching "Live from Daryl's House" (featuring one of my favorites of recent years - Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings) on Palladia and making some beef stock from Xmas' in-bone prime rib for tomorrow's beef vegetable soup in the late evening, I checked on Deb and Rocket in bed. My boy turned his head into my pillows and obliged me by staying that way while I retrieved my camera and grabbed a few shots.

While holed in my "Fortress of Solitude" (Deb is co-hosting a large gathering of yammering women -- I feel for Rocket!) and reloading some cartridges, I suddenly noticed this Cooper's hawk on our lilac bushes outside my garage window. My guess this is the culprit who created the feather pile in our backyard yesterday and left a Eurasian collared dove carcass in a neighbors yard.

Not a great picture as I had to shoot through the dirty window and screen.

Mentioning one of Rocket's dog friends' names gets a reaction out of him every time (not that this is a great 'action' shot)...In this case, saying the name "Teddy" got a head tilt of recognition...
