Malawi, Mzimba district, Thundwe Primary School, Twelve year old Alice Mwale and 13 year old Phoebe Lukhere both pupils at Thundwe Junior Pirmary School 30 kilometres east of Mzimba district washed hands after using the sanitary facilities. The sanitary and hand washing facilities were provided by UNICEF.

Malawi, Mzimba district, Thundwe Primary School, Beatrice Sakala, a standard 6 pupils at Thundwe Junior Primary School draws and drinks water from a bucket placed in front of her classroom. The buckets were provided together with cups. Each bucket has two cups, one for drawing and the other for drinking to enhance hygiene by avoiding contamination.

Malawi, Mzimba district, Thundwe Primary School, Dumisani Mwale , 14 years old, comes out of a sanitary facility and heads towards where hand washing facilities are mounted to wash hands before returning to class. Through School Sanitation Project, UNICEF has assisted in the provision of sanitary and hand washing facilities in Mzimba, just like other districts.

Malawi, Blantyre, Bvumbwe Young Offenders Rehabilitation Centre in Thyolo district where young offenders, convicted and remanded live. It was home to 267 as of mid-March 2012. Carpentry training is also part of the rehabilitation as prison authorities seek to assist the young offenders get equipped with the necessary skills that would assist them become economically independent one day. However, those who finish the lessons and get released after completing their sentences lack tools to continue with the carpentry business at home.
