Handsome grasshopper

This large grasshopper came to visit us one night and was banging on the window to get into the light. I put it in a container to photograph it the next day.
About 8cm.

It looks like a piece of wood sitting on the ground. Even if you see it land and touch it, it will sit very still and is almost impossible to see.

David Rentz, et al... mentions them in the book "A Guide to Australian Grasshoppers and Locusts" and that they are a favourite food of emus, who will stand around on the sand waiting for them to move.

A night visitor. She was quite a large one and was quite happy to hop around our feet and one of the ladders to investigate everything. This one is most likely an insect eater.

I went out again with my new torch to see what was out there but not very much.

This Slant-face grasshopper was waiting for us on the doorstep when we got home after a day out.
