Astroloma acervatum

The Western Australian Herbarium tells us:
"Astroloma acervatum is a new species recently discerned as distinct from the widespread and common Astroloma pallidum. Whilst similar in possessing flowers mostly cream or very pale yellow, and elliptic to narrowly obovate-elliptic leaves, the new species can be distinguished from A. pallidum by possessing a fire-sensitive rootstock, a prostrate and mat-forming habit often becoming raised and mounded in the centre, but always tapering to a well-defined margin at soil level, a bright green appearance with mature leaf margins conspicuously pale and hyaline, and a shorter sepal mucro."

This insect made (I suspect) object was on the Eucalyptus todtiana tree. It appeared to be sealed with the end seal being quite uneven.

What a wonderful insect. The body is ~10mm long. I noticed it floating in the air like a seed on its parachute but it had control and could move to where it wanted to go. There was no breeze at the time either so it needed further investigation.

Pimelea argentea
An interesting pimelea which doesn't have the normal pimelea flower heads.

This plant has separate male and female plants. The male plants have the flowers with anthers and pollen. The female flowers are less significant and female plans are less abundant. Some populations can consist of all male plants.

In the populations we have seen, the male plants seem to have longer and hairier leaves making them look very silvery.

The small bees were coming in loaded with pollen and disappearing down their holes in the ground.

There were hundreds of holes in an area of approximately 2m square and were visited by a small orange wasp.

Easily overlooked

Stenanthemum humile a small plant growing to 0.150mm tall. These were 60mm tall and 100mm across. Easily missed.

The flowers clump together like a posy surrounded by white fluffy hairs with the leaves below. This particular plant had a pink/red flashes.

The leaves look like pinnate leaves but are flat and rolled.

I am not sure how either name came about but it is a large triggerplant and fun to watch the trigger come over when you tap the base of the trigger with a small stick.

King Brown

This monster was on quite open ground following a DEC burn the previous spring.
It was very fat and about 2 m long. It does demand a lot of respect and distance! I took some photos and moved on to leave it to its own devices.
Just a reminder to keep a watch.

I think it is possibly a King Brown or Pseudechis australis one we rarely see.
King Brown snakes can grow to 3m and are very venomous.

For Piet! I know you like snakes. Just for looking at!! :-)
