What a wonderful discovery! I was looking for some different scenic places in Smithfield for my annual calendar project and found this neat little village of homes in an area called Georgiaville.

This was taken the day after the "big" January 14th blizzard of 6 inches. Just enough to empty the stores of bread and milk.

On the bridge at Mowry

This bridge saved me. Well kind of...

The image was taken at Mowry Conservation Area in Smithfield, RI. It's a favorite spot for me and an easy trek if you don't need crampons. I didn't have crampons. I crossed over this little bridge which runs over a semi ice-covered brook. I took the shot, walked off the bridge and walked down an icy downward path towards the water. My feet went out from me, I went down and slid right into the semi ice-covered brook. No problem if you're wearing crampons. Since I had none I slid and fell and slid and fell and couldn't get back up the embankment for the ice. The only way I could get out of my predicament was to chance walking towards the bridge from whence I came. So I gingerly walked across the semi ice-covered brook, praying that I wouldn't break through to the icy waters below (with camera around my neck). I made it to the bridge and hoisted my embarrassed and tired middle-aged body to safety.

The end. Wasn't that an exciting story?

The moral of it? Bring crampons next time, stupid!

I do like the shot. My butt bone is still quite sore.
