Description:

I'm just practicing here for a portrait shoot coming in a few days for a client. This is close to what they're looking for technically. Hopefully it's what they're looking for.

I set my tripod and camera about ten feet away from the subject. The subject is in open shade with two flashes opposite from the direction of the sun in late afternoon. This puts the subject directly between the flash and where the sun is in the sky with some tree's between the subject and the sun. I have one flash with it's built in diffuser on half power to soften some of the light on the subject. The other is full power and directed at the subject's face with the fresnel lens zoomed in to the face. The two flashes share a stand and wireless remote.

I know the bright green grass is a little distracting, but this is a different location from where I will be doing the actual shoot. So hopefully I won't have anything super distracting like that.

Three lights, two gels, and one of my last photos for advanced photography class.

This is straight out of the camera. I imported this into photoshop to convert the RAW file to JPEG and crop it square. That's it.

I did not include the album cover text that went with it for the assignment.

This shot could have been slightly stronger if I was closer with the 1.4x or even 2x adapter on the lens. I liked how she framed her face between her arm and wand.

Being in shade and having a few hot spots, I didn't think she would come out well, but this is straight out of the camera.

My first shot with film on a parade with the 300mm. It's daunting, especially with the light being so harsh.

I've shot this subject before with this lens and film body, but not with this film, I wanted to see the difference. I really love the color rendition of this film.

We decided to test out our flash gear outdoors. We certainly learned a lot like: we need sandbags for the stands, we need newer more capable flashes, with higher output and faster recycle time, build out some external batteries, find better locations, etc.

Expired Kodak Max 400 Color Film
Developed at Costco and scanned using an Epson V600
Converted to black and white and filters applied.

I've shot expired Kodak Max 400 before, this is about what I expected. I took the color out of these because it was so far gone.

She was really jazzed to be fighting the dark side. It brought a smile to everyone's face.

Apparently this only got me a score of 88%, when most of my projects get above 91%. I'm not too sure why, and I really don't want to confront the teacher because it says "as discussed". The class seemed to like it, and I only got good reviews from other classmates, I wonder what discussion he was a part of then.

By far the best dancer on this parade. We often find him on the back of the last float. If you ever get a chance to watch him dance, he's full of energy the entire parade route. Also a fantastic swing dancer, when he gets over to the Jump, Jive, Boogie, and Swing Party.
