Quite happy with this shot - it is rare to see the Little Evodia fruit open, still with seeds.

It is similar to Terminalia catappa - Indian-almond, or Tropical Almond, but fruits are smaller.
Australian (QLD) native .

The large broken tree trunk was laying on the beach, but still alive.
Location: Hinchinbrook island, tropical Australia

Alectryon tomentosus
Common Names: Hairy alectryon, Woolly rambutan, Hairy bird's eye

It is one of the few australian rainforest trees to fruit heavily in winter
"The fruit is a brown hairy capsule, 1-3 lobed, opening to reveal the red aril and shiny black (seeds).
The red fleshy aril is edible.

Foliage and un-ripe 'berries'.
Not related to real Tamarind, but its fruit has edible juicy red or orange aril, sour taste.

Family: Stemonuraceae, also placed in Icacinaceae

Note the small egg-shape unripe fruit. They are a food for the Wompoo Fruit Dove
Rainforest tree native to NE QLD Australia and to New Guinea.

Atractocarpus fitzalanii - 'Yellow Mangosteen'

The small tree found in Hinchinbrook island tropical wilderness, Queensland, Australia (geotagged).
The fruits are size of an apple. Yellow when ripe, and very hard. I could not cut it with my knife!

Initially we thought it could be a species of Larsenaikia (a new genus endemic Australian tropics)
However it is more likely Atractocarpus fitzalanii subsp.fitzalanii ,
previously Randia fitzalanii (still under that name in GRIN taxonomy)
Common names: Yellow Mangosteen, Brown Gardenia, Orange Randia, Native Gardenia, Native Guava.
After all the fruit is edible when ripe! - slightly sweet and quite dry.
