John Moulton barn in The Grand Tetons

the most photographed scene in The Grand Tetons I believe. I was there at 5 am and there were already some 10 photographers waiting around for the sun to rise. It was really cold! Thanks to my flickr friend Jeff I knew about this place and I just couldn't go home without having been there myself. It was well worth it.

there's something wrong with the date when this picture was taken. My camera had the wrong settings for some reason. All the pictures from Yellowstone and The Grand Tetons are made in June 2011.

The two calfs behind the mother are having an animated chat. I made a series of pictures and the white one does all the talking while the brown one, head forward, is hanging on her every word.

Today on the way home. I used my Sigma APO DG0 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 lens and this is the best it can do (100%). I have never been able to produce a sharp image with this lens. Is it me or is it the lens, I wonder if I should buy another one. Comments/advice appreciated!

We stumbled upon this young deer with calf and it was so beautiful to watch her looking after her young. The conditions to photograph this tender scene were quite a challenge because they were half in the shade and the sun was only just coming up. The calf is peeping at us and mum tries to get her to drink but she's so tiny still she can hardly reach the nipples. I doubt if she was more than a day old.

The most colourful of them all.
Limestone is the dominant underlying rock here instead of rhyolite, which is dominant in the park's other major hydrothermal areas. This area is one of the world's best examples of travertine-depositing hot springs. Maximum water temperature is 73C.
Therophiles (heat-loving microorganisms) create tapestries of colour where hot water flows among the terraces. Colourless and yellow thermophiles grow in the hottest water; organge, brown, and green thermophiles thrive in cooler waters. Colours also change with the seasons.
