These little plants must have droplets on them throughout the winter as falling snow melts when it lands on leaves warmed by water flowing down from the lower hot springs at the Cave and Basin.

Even small fish manage to live through the coldest months of winter in the warm waters flowing down from the lower hot springs at the Cave and Basin. (They may be difficult to see, but they are there.)

Warm water running off the lower hot springs at the Cave and Basin give year-round life to certain plants and animals in spite of winter's efforts.

Plants in the marsh just below the lower hot springs at the Cave and Basin. While we were here, workers from Parks Canada were measuring the temperature of the water, and I heard them say it was 20 degrees Celsius. That's not bad, considering the temperature that day was around -4 degrees Celsius!
