Fireworks at the Washington Monument

We met up with some friends to camp in Virginia for the week, and included in our itinerary a visit to DC to watch the fireworks. We positioned ourselves on the National Mall between the Washington Monument and the Capitol Building. Got a few good shots, but there was almost no breeze at all, and the gentle drift was towards us, so most of the shots are at least partially obscured by smoke.

All in all, still pretty amazing to be in Washington DC for the 4th.

The Detroit fireworks did have some color to them. The other one I posted may make it seem like they only did red...

I don't know why I threw the sponsorship thing in there, except that it is cool that they put on this show, or at least a big part of it.

Rushing to the roof, trying to get there in time to set up for the Detroit Fireworks... I saw the view and had to stop and shoot. I must go back at night again. Completely amazing place.

I didn't want to crop this, so view larger if you want to see the city better. It's really the only way unless you have one of those obnoxiously large monitors.

First time doing anything other than point-and-shoot for fireworks. Other than a small crop, this is sooc. I experimented with a few different settings throughout Canton's awesome show.
