Seen here is from RAAF No. 6 Squadron A44-216. Informally referred to as the "Rhino" to distinguish it from earlier model Hornets, the RAAF operates 24 F/A-18F 's operated by No. 1 and 6 Squadrons. They were acquired as an interim measure until the introduction of the F-35As avoiding a strike capability gap with the retirement of the F-111s in 2010 and to cover for any fatigue issues related to the F/A-18A & F/A-18B fleet.
