These guys are outdoing themselves this year! They sound like mockingbirds on steroids! Their songs are so very beautiful and then they toss in that random cat noise and it's so funny! I love them! There is a chestnut-colored patch under the tail. The notes say it is a secretive bird that the Chippewa Indians named Bird That Cries With Grief due to its raspy call. The call sounds like the mewing of a house cat, hence the common name. More often heard than seen . . . I must say that I see them all the time.

A very poor quality video taken between storms . . . but the catbird was singing. The lightning bugs were out and if you look real hard, you might be able to see one or two. :-)

Have you ever seen a finer tuft?! About 20 minutes earlier, this little angel slammed into the window, knocked himself senseless and scared me to death. He recovered quite nicely!

She was truly horrified to have been banished (with the boys, no less) to the screened in porch while we had new carpet installed. This photo was taken in the morning and they were out there until early evening!
