Boys never tire of thier toys

The Uwharrie National Forest in NC is a premier destination for legal off-roading in the Eastern US. I'm fortunate to be within a couple hours drive. When I first got my Jeep we traveled out to do the "Easy" trails. "Easy" is a relative term for those who designated the trails at Uwharrie.

My stock Jeep was using each of it's factory, underbody, skid plates in succession on the "easy" trails. A year later I've modified the Jeep (as many Jeep drivers do) with a "lift" and larger tires. The "Easy" trails are now fun without the worry of damage to the vehicle. Just fun obstacles. I didn't stop to take a picture at the obstacles. This photo was taken when we pulled over in a "rest" area after a small "rock garden". It was beginning to rain which picked up in intensity making the trails far more challenging later on.

Next time onto the "Moderate" trails where I can begin to grind the undercarriage skid plates again.

Something about this image strikes me as extremely representative of Asheville...
Asheville is an odd mixture of culture and chaos, finery and sloppiness.
It is a city that seems comfortable with itself like a well worn pair of jeans.

I was standing on tiptoes at the edge of a fountain to try and get high enough to photograph down into this water lotus. It was very tall. It made me wish for a camera with an articularting live view display. But it worked out and I didn't fall into the fountain.

Built by E.W. Grove, the visionary and creator of the Grove Park Inn, the Grove Arcade opened in 1929 and thrived until World War II as one of the country’s leading public markets. The historically renovated Grove Arcade reopened to the public in 2002, a beloved downtown architectural wonder.

This image was created from 3 handheld bracketed shots merged with Enfuse. On a technical note I am personally amazed at this open source donate-ware application's ability to auto-align handheld images into one. I simply selected the three bracketed images in LR and applied the Enfuse plugin on full automatic and out pops this nicely merged image.
