A Black Swan (Cygnus atratus) asserting its dominance in the Swan River over the Perth CDB in the background is probably a reasonably iconic representation of Perth's latter day institutions.

This image was taken on the shores of South Perth with elbows and knees buried into waterlogged sand. But it was probably worth it ……

This is a photo of a Black Swan (Cygnus atratus) I shot having forgotten to take my camera off 1/640 shutter speed. Although it's an interesting effect, I'm not sure I like it all that much, but one of my friends tells me that it's good.

I'll take her word for it!

This is an image I took a while ago and have often thought of posting but not quite made it. I like the light, the shape and the distribution of colour on both the bird and on the water.

If you've noticed I haven't been posting for a while, it's simply that the new format Flickr makes it too hard to post to groups and ensure comment obligations are met. Overall I quite like the new look but this element really pisses me off.

I renewed my Pro account today only reluctantly.

Low morning sun shines laterally across this Black swan (Cygnus atratus).

Apparently the English settlers in the 18C were greatly puzzled by this version of the traditional white swan with which they were familiar.

While cygnets are always a beautiful subject matter, I was particularly intrigued to see this family being stalked by an eel in an Auckland park.

The eels are apparently voracious predators but I have no idea if they think they can eat cygnets. Nevertheless the swan, as soon as it was aware of its presence, turned and saw it off.
