I saw one of the coolest sunrises the other day. I actually wasn't even planning to go to this location, but after my plans fell through, I had no other choice. I'm glad I ended up here.

What looks like Egyptian pyramids here is actually Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island. I knew this place was hit hard during Hurricane Sandy, but I was surprised to see how much damage was still left. It was a depressing sight - especially passing signs that said "bring back our beach". I come here every year for summer vacation in July, so we'll see what it looks like then.

Rocky Neck

There's so many places in Connecticut that I have yet to explore, so I figured I would take a trip to a new beach on my way home from school the other day. I didn't walk away with that many great shots, but I think it was still worth the visit.

I processed this using Silver Efex Pro. I've seen so many great photos here on flickr that were made using this program, and I've been wanting to try it out for a while now so I downloaded the trial. I also made a b&w conversion in photoshop to compare to and this one definitely came out better (although I'm not sure if it's a bit too harsh/contrasty). I'm excited to try it out with different photos.

I woke up for sunrise this morning and took a trip to Walnut Beach. I was hoping for some clouds but got a nice layer of fog instead, which was nice. The birds were a bonus.

I was getting a banding problem when I was editing this in photoshop, and finally found a way to fix it. But for some reason, flickr made it come back again.

So I figured I might as well take advantage of this blizzard and go out and shoot. I wish there was a better waterfall closer to my house, but this was good enough.

I know I could have gotten a better composition, but shooting in this weather was pretty terrible. The wind kept blowing the snow directly into my lens which caused dozens of tiny little droplets to show up (I spent about an hour cleaning it up in photoshop), plus the fact that I nearly fell in a few times. My camera was soaking wet by the time I got home and I'm just glad it still works.

Thanks to my Mom who drove me here. I think I would have ended up in a ditch if I took my own car.

Explored January 27, 2013.

This was taken 2 days ago. I finally found the courage to shoot in this terrible weather, although I only lasted half an hour before my fingers froze to death. I walked away with just 2 photos, this one, which I had to photoshop the heck out of to get it how I wanted, and another one, which I'm not sure is even worth posting.

I haven't really been satisfied with the work I've been producing lately, and it's kind of discouraging. I'm hoping to change that soon.

Heroes Highway

This is actually the Merritt Parkway. I called it Heroes Highway because I was standing literally on top of the Heroes Tunnel in New Haven when I took it. I go through this tunnel everytime I go to/come home from school and always thought it would be cool to shoot the highway from the top of the tunnel. I was in the area yesterday so I decided to see if it was possible to get on top, and sure enough it was. Just had to crawl underneath a fence. The view was beautiful, and the sunset was a nice bonus.

I actually took this photo about a month ago and just got around to editing it now. At first I didn't like it, but after playing around with it a bit and changing the crop, I think it looks okay. I know I've taken similar shots as this one... but I'm obsessed with waves.

I got a new tripod for Christmas that I'm really excited to try out. I hope everyone had a great holiday!

Yesterday was a beautiful foggy day. I had planned to spend the whole day studying and finishing my final paper, but it was too good to pass up.

I shot 3 conceptual pieces as well, and hopefully at least one of them will come out the way I want it to. I haven't had the best luck lately.

I forgot how nice it was to watch the sun set/rise over the water. This wasn't even that great of a sunset, but it was so peaceful to watch. And it was nice that I had pretty much the whole beach to myself.

I'll be uploading another shot from here once I get a chance to edit.

Here's another one from the day after the hurricane. This image isn't as sharp as I'd like it to be only because I was trying to dodge the waves splashing up on my camera while taking the photo... pretty difficult haha!

Eastern 2013

It's so weird to think that I've only been here 4 years, when it really feels like much longer than that. I can remember the first day moving in and how petrified I was. Now, I feel like a completely different person.

Today is my last final, and the day I will be moving out. Tuesday is my graduation. I guess I'm sad to say that I won't be living here anymore, but I'm much more happy to get out of here and start doing what I really want to do. This year really dragged on.

As excited as I am to leave this place, I honestly don't think I would be where I am with my photography if it wasn't for Eastern. Entering as a freshman, I wasn't even that interested in it. I never would have guessed that I would be as obsessed with it as I am now, let alone trying to make a side career out of it. Even though it wasn't my major, I feel like I invested just as much time into it as I did with my psychology courses (if not more).

Well that's enough rambling. Hopefully from now on, I'll be uploading a lot more frequently. Thanks to everyone who continues to stop by my stream and leave me comments. You're all the best.
