Backlit Nettles

nuttallp posted a photo:

I happened upon this scene whilst venturing through the Common. The sun was striking through the trees at an angle by which it lit these nettles, yet left the area behind them in the dark. Various debris was falling from the tree above, although I didn't really manage to capture too much of that in the shot. However, I'm pretty happy with the results regarding the stingers and various other spiky greenery.

As shot - cropped in Photoshop with very slight level correction applied.

Daisy Age

nuttallp posted a photo:

I spent quite a while trying to get the right shot of various flowers on Clapham Common. These daisies had petals with pink tips and, combined with the warm sunset, seemed to be the most photogenic. It's a shame that we hadn't had a whole day of sun as most of the flowers were closed up for the day, but the flower on the right was just about struggling on!

Taken while testing the Sony HX200V. Image as shot, with slight level and curve correction applied in Photoshop. Lens flare and pink hue all camera's own workings.
