Taken for Assignment52-Camera Toss. I used the "safe" method, by swinging the camera over a strand of white lights in a dark room. I've got to find my colored lights and try this again.

Yikes! This was definitely a challenge and this was the best I was able to do. I managed to get both blue and pink hues in this :) , which I know was not the challenge!

My interest in ICM began almost a year ago, when our friend Linda Clower introduced us to this technique in an assignment for A52. Since then I have been working to gain more control over my final result to retain some semblance of the image and texture and to pay closer attention to composition.

I have followed Chris Friel, an artist from the UK on Flickr, and this is a (very) loose interpretation of some of his earlier photos. While his work is quite dark (and very moving), I do like some controlled amount of light in my ICM images.

I set out this morning with so many ideas whirling around in my mind. I wanted to take some motion shots downtown...no one was out--no people, no cars. Then went to check out some of my favorite spots with the thought of capturing one of our many species of flowering trees (in Llewellyn style), but spring is late this year and nothing much has bloomed. I thought of ICM, but the sun was too bright. Can't believe that would be a disppointment, considering the dreary winter we have had. I made a u-turn into a school yard, saw this amazing tree and had to shoot it, although I had no clue at this point what I had in mind.

I loaded this in Gimp and did a little brightness/contrast sliding and then converted it to black and white. What resulted, I thought was along the lines of one of my favorites Ansel Adams, although it doesn't come close to his beautiful scenes of the American west.

The weather we had in NC this week was not very cooperative for this assignment, but I'm happy I was able to pull it off! Top shot taken at 7 am, and 2 shots later, the sun went behind clouds. I was lucky to get this amount of color and reflection! The bottom shot was taken same day in the mid afternoon. I flipped it horizontally just to be different.

I learned a lot this week through other member's posts, both about light and creating collages. Found it very interesting that in most cases, although I liked the shots taken during the "golden hour", the color was more true in those taken at other times.

Once again, many thanks to Kathy Koch for sharing her enthusiasm, love and knowledge of photography with me. We visited the campus of NCSU in Raleigh, NC today and this was shot in the "NCSU Free Expression Tunnel". Although, I was thinking we were going to shoot people walking by, Kathy had brought her bag of tricks that among other goodies, included some great light "sabres", which was the highlight of our time there.

A little pp in PicMonkey. Mostly a crop at the bottom because there was trash on the ground :( which I didn't see before, a bit of a color boost with the Orton effect and some darkening around the edges to give it some grounding.

A bit brighter and busier than my usual taste, but it was a wonderful learning experience and the departure from my comfort zone was very welcome! Thank you agan, Kathy!

My first attempt at capturing refracting light. I used a red glass vase with a clamp type lamp shining through it onto a piece of aluminum foil pinned to the wall. I find the patterns very interesting as the foil was not near as crumpled as it appears to be. Border and soften filter added in PicMonkey.

Clearly, I am terrible at phoneography! I did have my camera with me today, but as usual, left the card at home :)

This is not a glamour shot, although my daughter's eyes have a certain "bedroom look" to them. We were actually awaiting my grandson's surgery for removal of a tumor-like growth under his right eye (which isn't visible). Hunter named this "Bill" and was very anxious to have him removed :). This shot clearly shows the concern Tara had for her son and his love for her.

Chocolates by candlelight

Yay! I had a perfectly valid reason to go out this week to buy new candles (which I was completely out of) and my favorite chocolate (what is the holiday season without chocolate?). I ate too many of the truffles while shooting last night, but they were so worth it! I wish I had more candles as I think this shot would've benefitted from more light and not have been so dark, but all in all it was a lovely, relaxing and decadent evening.
