Had to put a border around this due to the left edge being so washed out. Poor, dear tree...laying there like a critically wounded animal taking in its last view of the city over which it gazed for quite
a few years.

This glorious tree now has another way of seeing the city, which it for so long viewed from above the fence line. It must have fallen in the high winds we had the day before. I was rather off my game yesterday, being preoccupied with other things going on in the life of a friend. I didn't realize how effected I was until I looked back over the photographic mishaps that had occurred, and resulted in both botched exposures and negatives.

I took a meter reading, set my camera, started to compose the shot and then I realized I had forgotten to change the ISO on my meter. I set the correct film speed, and decided I wanted to use a small aperture; f/16 @ 1/125 read the meter. I like things a bit underexposed so I decided to increase the the shutter speed one full stop; 1/250 right? Then why did I set the shutter speed at 1/60? (I should have known when I dropped my red filter in the snow, and couldn't use it, subsequently, that maybe I should turn back) Didn't catch my error until 2 minutes after I drove away, then the mistake sounded off in my head like an air horn. Alright, alright it's not the end of the world, I told myself.

When I got home, I decided to develop immediately. So, I loaded my film into the tank, poured out my developer and fixer, (there were several other smaller mistakes that occurred during this phase, but I'll just detail the biggies), then I took off the lid to the tank. But I didn't stop there. I removed the tank's light-blocking funnel...yes, that's right...I took it all of the way off before realizing what I had done. I tried hard to get it back on as quickly as possible, but of course, "Haste makes waste."

I went ahead and developed, but the negatives were ruined...not only were they overexposed, but there were big light splotches on some, and several others were just completely ruined. Oh yeah...I looked up how I could compensate in development for having overexposed, but when it came time to develop I couldn't recall whether I should develop longer or shorter...I ended up "remembering" incorrectly.

Anyway...this ended up being one of 2 that I salvaged, although I had to do a little work in Lightroom.

This was one of the images I took moving from right to left...they're tiny...but there are the 3 deer that showed up, to my surprise and delight, at the end of the frame, www.flickr.com/photos/dog_dreamzzz/6913292865/in/photostream. When I scanned the negs., it was a bit disorienting; it took me a moment to remember that I'd reversed the direction.

I'm trying to work in more buildings and other structures into my microclick images. They present a bit more of a challenge for me...I have to be wider with my body movement and more generous with the "clicks," otherwise I get too much of a "stutter" effect and the whole thing ends up looking too chaotic.

I obviously didn't get the film started at the correct point...images later on the roll showed two exposure numbers within the same frame, and there was a surplus of unexposed film at the end...

Gotta' say...though...I like the tape mark...
