This tiny stream flows into the Afon Garw near Pont Yr Hyl. The Afon Garw was once known as the Black river because of all the coal dust from the five mines which used to be in the valley. Now you can spot trout in the speckled sunlight. The Afon Gawr in turn flows into the Afon Ogwr which reaches the sa at Ogmore

I never tire of the view from the top of this hill near Ogmore Beach - looking across the river valley and the urban sprawl of Bridgend to the mountains beyond. This photo is particularly relevant for me since, on the right of the horizon, you can see some wind turbines and a TV mast with a forest drifting off the hill to the right. This is the forest we will be able to see from our new house - if we ever get there!

M bought me some gorgeous yellowy pink roses to cheer me up earlier in the week, Here is one of them which I photographed, turned into a drawing using Picasa software though it gives a fairly pale effect which you have to boost in PSE. Then I drew roughly over the lines of the drawing with a paintbrush from the special wet brushes, then completely repainted. Lastly I added a background texture and rubbed it out beneath the painted rose. Many thanks to Spektoral Addendum for the use of their texture.

Keep Out Cottage

This ruined and abandoned farmhouse has a sign above the porch saying keep out, hence the name. I'm always intrigued by ruined buildings, especially this one since it has what appears to be used as a barn to protect it, but which could easily once have been fortified, see image below. The farmhouse stands adjacent to a public footpath to the Bockhampton Estate in Herefordshire. EXPLORED 06/04/2013 approx #320

Snow lingers on the higher uplands of the Malvern hills and can still cause trouble on some of the surrounding B roads. The apparently burned out building in the foreground is very intriguing, I might try to get there tomorrow. EXPLORE 04/04/2013 approx #325

Closed to the public for understandable reasons today , we had to trek up the hill through mounting snow drifts to get a decent set of photos. The wind was blowing the snow in what M called 'blizzard' conditions and even after 20 minutes our footprints had been swept away. Anyway I hope you'll think the cold was worth it!

We needed a new painting for a recently decorated room, a couple of hours messing about with gouache on canvas! After photographing I added a canvas effect texture courtesy of Lenabam Anna to give added depth.

Just had to take this shot after a fairly arduous and totally unfruitful walk in Fermyn Woods, no colour, lots of snow drifts, and lots of red kites but no big lens - the things we do for a photo! It's just so galling when the trip is unproductive.

The Bodleian Library, the main research library of the University of Oxford, is one of the oldest libraries in Europe, and in Britain is second in size only to the British Library. Opened: November 8, 1602 Architectural style: English Gothic architecture Architect: Giles Gilbert Scott.

Hertford Bridge [Also known as Bridge of Sighs], Oxford. I wonder if maybe that is because you simply have to sigh at its singular beauty every time you see it rather than in homage to the original!

Ruin on French Drove.

This ruin was the reason I originally joined Flickr. I believed that the photo shown below was good enough to show other people. You can see the extent of further decay in just two years.
