Rear view of the old Barrett Junior High School in the Merion Village neighborhood - just south of German Village in Columbus, OH. Originally built in 1898, it's been closed now for several years - not sure what's going to become of it...

Broken old sign for the R&R Bait Shop and Sporting Goods on Front Street in the Brewery District near downtown Columbus, OH. Contrary to the condition of this sign, the store is still open for business.

Looking up through the skylight at 50 West Town in downtown Columbus, Ohio. This building used to be the Lazarus department store - it was recently renovated and is now home to the OSU Urban Arts Space as well as other businesses.

The Crites Octagon House in Circleville, Ohio. It was moved to its current location in 2004 to make way for a Walmart - the intention was to preserve and renovate it, but unfortunately nothing has been done to it since then...

The historic Old Post Office Pavilion building - on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. Built in 1899, I hear that it is now going to be turned into a luxury hotel by Donald Trump!

Our trip to Washington, D.C. a couple years ago was one of the more visually interesting I've been on recently. I currently don't seem to be taking many good photos, so I've been going back through the archives and, after a second look, have found quite a few more from this trip that I thought were worth posting, so here they are - enjoy!

Bicentennial Tree

This tree stands in the middle of a vacant lot on the edge of suburban Worthington, Ohio, surrounded by businesses, apartments and railroad tracks. But there are floodlights and a sign on it, so I was curious. The sign reads:

"The International Society of Arboriculture and the national Arborist Association jointly recognize this significant tree in this bicentennial year as having lived here during the American Revolutionary period. 1776-1976"

So by now this tree is most likely at least 240 years old...

The roof of a big abandoned house in Olde Towne East. The tree branch seems to be reaching for it, as if trying to grab hold and speed along its disintegration...

After a little searching, I discovered that this building was built in 1920 and was originally a dormitory for the Columbus School for Girls, when the school was at its original location on Town Street.
