Swedish winter

This a panorama stitched together with 2 photos (that wasn't my intention when I took them, just an idea I got when I was working in Photoshop).

There was maybe 2 or 3 days last week when the frost covered all trees and the world was most beautiful. I'm glad I got out that morning and took a few shots, because the next day the frost was gone.

I just happened to walk right past this lovely view on my way to the grocery store. Since I started this "one year 366 photos"-project I made it a habit to keep my tiny "point-and-shoot" cam in my pocket, and for that I'm glad..!

Well.. I wish I had my DSLR and a tripod, but.. you can't get always get what you want, right? :-)

Edit: What's going on? Suddenly I have 6 (!) photos in Explore. Well.. I can't complain :-)

Two half naked men fighting each other with knives? I'm not sure what this is supposed to be about.. anyway, the statue is located in front of Vänersborg museum.

I tried to frame them with the two trees in the background. It was a foggy day, I really like how it turned out in black/white.

Edit: Thank you Flublie! This statue is called "Bältespännarna" and was made by sculptor Johan Peter Molin in 1859. I don't think this is the original. These men are engaged in a old form of battle called "strain belts" (spänna bälte). The two combatants was tied to each with a belt and was given each one knife. The fight ended when one of the two was killed. It wasn't unusual that both men suffered from fatal wounds and died..

Snow! Finally :-)

I'm hoping there will be lots of it and that it won't melt away in a day or two. Hanna thinks it will be gone on Monday but I have a feeling it might stay a few weeks. I'm probably wrong there..

I don't know the name of this cemetary. It's located in Vänersborg and I've always been fascinated how scattered the graves are and how empty it looks. Especially this cross that are isolated from the others. I'll try to find more information about this.

So I went out with my camera for 2 hours today. I think this is the best shot. It's a "walking bridge" seen from above. I'm standing on a much larger bridge called "the Dalbo bridge" or "Dalbobron".

I'm really looking forward to next week. Not so much that I'm back in school but more because I have ordered a new lens (50 mm f/1,8) and I can't wait to use it! I hope I will get it on monday or tuesday..

I think my panoramas is a lot better now compared to the first one I made. This is 8 photos (taken in "portrait format", when you tilt your camera to the side) and then merged into one using Photoshop.

The Stallbacka bridge just outside Trollhättan (Sweden). I found an old photo from last year that I like but haven't got around to posting yet. We've been in Gothenburg this weekend and I have created somewhat of a "backlog" of photos. Wow, that sounds like fun... more like work, actually. No, it'll be fun, just need to find the time to go through them all.

Trollhättan, Sweden. The railroad bridge. This is 6 images stitched together to make a panoramic view. I really like the result, but I feel that the left part need something more to balance the right side, like a boat or a canoe in the water. Unfortunately I can't do magic and conjure such things from the empty air.. :-(

It's snowing! Wohoo! :-) My wife isn't very happy about it, and I'm sure there's a lot of whining and grumbling going on in every corner of this damn country, but I'm thinking "finally..". Bring it on!

This photo was taken in Trollhättan. A quick snapshot but I wanted to catch the falling snow and if possible some people. Something about the blonde girl wearing nothing on her head (unlike everyone else) caught my eye. I wish the focus was better.

Oh well, another tiltshift.. this was taken from the 16th floor in the tallest building in Trollhättan; Eidar (only student apartments). I messed around with the colour balance in Photoshop, and for the first time I didn't use tiltshiftmaker.com but I did it manually in PS.

On another note. Today I was approached by a security guard. I was taking a few photos of a staircase (emergency exit stairs outside a shopping mall) that I like. It has a reflecting wall behind the stairs so I tried to find a good angle.. then a muscular guy walks up to me and asks "- why are you taking photos here?".

I explained that I like the reflections and didn't think anyone would mind. It turned out there has been several attempts of burglary at this spot and he got suspicious of me walking around with a camera.

Luckily he assumed I didn't look criminal, so he got more friendly and he asked me how long I've been taking photos and he also recommended me to get a underwater case so I could take photos while diving.. not the most pleasant experience, but sure, he seemed like a nice guy.

This was shot from the 16th floor of the Eidar building. It's the tallest (inhabited) building in Trollhättan. And in this building there's only apartments for students (as far as I know).

I added a red/yellow split toning in Camera Raw to get this neat colour tone. It makes me think of photos from when my parents were young.

Trollhättan. The four pillars at the left is holding up the railway bridge. This was originally meant to be a wide panorama (I let Photoshop stitch together 11 photos) but then I cropped it and realised this was much better. And it feels more balanced.

Today was the monthly market in Trollhättan. I participated in a challenge that I got from ChernobylBob from the "Get Pushed"-group that I participated in for the first time. His challenge was ".. you could take a candid shot of strangers, doing whatever they do".

Since I hate walking around with a camera among people I accepted it. I actually want to do this more. Mostly I just see inanimate objects or lines, patterns etc, but I seldom notice other human beings as the main subject of my photos.

This girl was filming the market and the people crowding it. I had my P&S camera and used the zoom because I didn't dare to get too close. I know it's not a very interesting shot but it was the best one I got today. I will definitely try this again!

How often do you see a sign outside a store telling you to "piss off!"? Well, if you haven't guessed it already it's a pet shop (animal store?) and the sign is telling you about a product that removes all traces of animal urin on furniture etc.

The store is called "Fidos" and is located in Trollhättan, if you ever want to drop by.

I went a bit mad with the processing here, and I'm still not sure if I like this or not. There's something about it that gives me a "post apocalyptic" feel and the more natural look (that I've chosen not to upload) just looks like "a walk in the mist". It's funny how different treatments can change the mood of a photo so much.

It was a foggy day today. I got very excited because I love mist, so after we left the kids at school/day nursery (it's their fathers week) both Hanna and Vincent were tired so while they went asleep I grabbed my camera and headed out.
