Seen at the Alverstone Mead Nature Reserve. The bands of brown, on the squirrel's black tail, can just be seen. Hopefully, when he has moulted into his winter coat, the bands will be more distinct.

Seen at the Alverstone Mead Nature Reserve. This friendly little chap is the nearest to a tame squirrel at Alverstone. On this visit, he bounded up to ask for food after about five minutes, and happily went away with a nut. For an hour, he was the only squirrel in evidence.

This is Black-tail No.2, who normally sits with his tail up. Black-tail No.3, a female, looks very similar, but has a shorter tail. Anyway, he finally posed for a while, before chasing off another squirrel who was getting to grips with a walnut.
