Kinda looks like it is wearing a fur-lined cloak. "Winter is coming!"

Roughly 1.5 - 2 cm from head to wing tip (in this "pose")...

Could possibly be Spilosoma congrua (Agreeable tiger moth) - I didn't disturb it to look at the color of the abdomen... (S. virginica has yellow markings on the abdomen, while S. congrua's abdomen is pure white. [comment by Paul Dennehy]) Both species have a lot of variation in their markings...

Looks a bit like conchiglie pasta with the scalloped edges of the individual flowers.

This time I set the shutter speed to 1/1000. Even with the f/stop set down to 8, the picture was underexposed so I had to lighten it up with Photoshop Elements. This particular specimen was even flightier than the one I was trying to photograph last week, so I had a lot of trouble getting a good focus...

I don't understand why my camera won't let me set the shutter speed faster than 1/200 when the flash is turned on...

I keep hanging around the abelia trying to take pictures of bugs with my new (to me) 100 mm lens. (I am continuously frustrated. Seems like I did better with my pocket camera!) So, every now and again, I try to get a decent picture of the miniture abelia flowers. Obviously, it be better with out the built-in flash, but that's the only flash that I have...

In the family, Rosoideae, which also includes strawberries (as well as roses, blackberries, raspberries, etc.) but is not that closely related to true strawberries.

Note: in the common name, "Indian" refers to the country of India, where the plant was originally classified (see also the scientific name). It was brought to Europe and America as an ornamental plant and has become a bit invasive...

The fruit is edible but not sweet like a true strawberry. (The ants still seem to enjoy it though...)

I should've set up in the bushes between the house and the flower to get a better background... (Of course, it would've been difficult and uncomfortable, but those are the sacrifices that must be made...)
