Semur-en-Brionnais holds the coveted label Un des plus beaux villages de France (one of the most beautiful villages of France). I am not totally sure it deserves it, when you compare it to some thoroughly stunning villages that are part of the same fraternity, but its small Romanesque church certainly is gorgeous and memorable!

This Alpine lake was the subject of a very famous poem (The Lake, what else ?) by 19th century romantic poet Lamartine.

We all (well, many of us) learned it in high school.

The town in the background is Aix-les-Bains.

Enormous Cave Entrance

This is the entrance to the caves at La Balme in France. It is a gigantic archway, probably 40 to 50 meters high, under which two chapels have been built and fit comfortably.

The caves themselves were closed to the public when I drove by by chance but they will reopen in the Spring and I look forward to going back and visiting them.
