Genova, Italy. It was the first day of September, the weather had changed quickly in those days, from weeks when the sun gave off its warm rays of light from dawn to dusk to sudden rainy and windy days. In the afternoon I had gone out for jogging and arrived in Boccadasse I realized white storm clouds to the east heading toward Genoa. Already I could see beyond the hills a few lightning bolt on the blanket that looked like whipped cream. I stopped to admire that show. The sunset was never so early in the evening, covered with a mantle of clouds above the Apennines.

It got dark and the night came. Around midnight the sky began to shine in front of Quinto al Mare, thunderbolt shone like a pyrotechnic lights show, exactly in the middle of the gulf. It reminded me about last autumn where I had gone down to the beach, to photograph on the shoreline lightning storm off the coast of Portofino's promontory. Meanwhile, the lightning show was going on in front of the Italian Naval League beach, not so good to photograph offshore sea but a nice window to include rocks or other subjects of the sea in the picture. I started shooting around 02:00 am, the coastline was becoming a scenery of magnificence, a glitz of inexhaustible lights .. no other show could match with that was happening before my eyes.

Genova, Liguria. It was a beautiful evening in late spring and with my friend decided to go out for dinner near Levanto seaport in the majestic Ligurian east coast. When we had finished eating, headed to the seashore and walked on the shoreline while I could see a suggestive lightnings storm at the skyline west coast. Just turning back to Genova round midnight, the weather gets worse starting to rain! But suddenly the weather changes near Bogliasco coast; I could not hope for anything better now! Going back to home for bring my reflex and ride on my Vespa headin' toward Sturla beach. Cold, downpour .. but the desire to stay in that beach was unstoppable.

I had taken this shot with my Nikon D3100 and Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens, supported by a polarizing filter Hoya CIR-PL HD. The night was not so dark, choosing to set a long exposure time of 4 seconds at 100 ISO with a not so bright diaphragm aperture because the storm was not so far. In this area, the seashore is not so wide and I had chosen to set a focal length at 36 mm to have a good view and capture more possible lightnings: I'd say, mission accomplished.

Capolungo, Genova. That evening I went out for to take the sunset. I was standing on the Nervi's promenade. The weather was something wonderful: sunny winter afternoon, a clouds streak on the sealine to the south and others like whipped cream above the hills. I went on the beach and in a short time came the moment of sunset, a magnificent sight that I could enjoy sitting on the rocks. About a half hour after sundown, weather suddenly changed; the clouds above the promontory of Portofino began to shine, as fuzzy light gashes of light in a majest november sky.

It was something majestic, unique show! I put my reflex on a brick wall of the rock because I didn't have got a tripod. Set the brightest diaphragm aperture that could give me my Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens at 18 mm focal length: I chose f/3.5 with an exposure time of 4 seconds. The result is here.
Genova, Italy. It had been gradually getting overcast, and now the sky was dark and lowering, save where the glory of the departing sun piled up masses of gold and burning fire, decaying embers of which gleamed here and there through the black veil, and shone redly down upon the earth. The wind began to moan in hollow murmurs, as the sun went down, carrying glad day elsewhere; and a train of dull clouds coming up against it, menaced thunder and lightning. Large drops of rain soon began to fall, and, as the storm-clouds came sailing onward, others supplied the void they left behind and spread over all the sky. Then was heard the low rumbling of distant thunder, then the lightning quivered, and then the darkness of an hour seemed to have gathered in an instant.

Genova, Italy. There was a storm at sea. The raindrops fell thick, fast flowing, like regret. The sky was gray and the wind was strong, cold, sharp. The waves of screaming raged in my heart. They wanted to sweep everything away, destroying the reef, cancel that beach. They would like to delete everything gets in before them, memories, images, desires, hopes.

Theirs is a constant path, the movement was frantic and nervous. In their rush grow up, get up and then fell down into a thousand eddies, confused, indistinct as my thoughts. There is no light except a gray twilight that envelops everything. The current is violent, sly, invincible. Drag my soul away. The door at the bottom of an abyss. The abyss of a story that no longer belongs to me.
