What is the first place you visit when you are in Potsdam? Sanssouci, of course! So I started at one end of the park and worked ... eh ... sketched my way through it. This is the organ in the Church of Peace.

This was the first full day of my mini-holiday after the conference in Potsdam. I took a walk from my hotel to the city centre of Potsdam (a long walk, but hey, I'm on Weight Watchers, and I need the extra points! *g*) and it was so lovely at the water that I simply *had* to sit down and do a leisurely sketch of the view. It was a nice, warm day, too, so the watercolours dried very quickly (which was a bit of a shame, really, because I didn't have an excuse to linger on that comfy bench any longer).

The view from the top of St. Nikolai Church, Potsdam. This falls into the category of Artist Interrupted: just after I had finished sketching the backview of the angel, the wind picked up and it started to rain. Let me tell you, the top of some church in bad weather is not the most comfortable place to be, which is why I decided to abandon my post and why the angel ended up looking at a few squiggely lines.

Very quick sketch of the Glienicker Bridge. The bridge spans across the river Havel and connects Berlin and Potsdam. It is still painted in two different shades of green as a reminder of the time when the border between West Berlin and the German Democratic Republic ran right across its middle. It was use for spy swaps several times during the Cold War.

Another page from my Potsdam sketchbook. For the conference dinner we were driven to the Filmpark Babelsberg to have dinner at the "Prinz Eisenherz", where you not only get to eat really lovely food (and drinks! *thinking of the apple-rum-punch-thingie* Yum!), but where you also get to see a fantastic show (think fire-eaters, belly-dancers and the like). The sketch shows one of the wall decorations as well as one of the awesome stained glass windows.

I stayed at the Kongresshotel am Templiner See, and this is the view from the garden. The lake (which is not really a lake, but part of the river Havel) is just beyond the trees.
