It's that time of year when the endangered species of the Piping Plovers arrive at your beaches along the ocean and bay shores in your area. They are now choosing which site they want to lay their eggs and are actively mating.

Please take heed of the educational signs and bringing untethered animals (dogs) to roam about. Remember, Piping Plovers do not remain within the roped off areas that DEC place for their breeding grounds during feeding time.

Piping Plovers forage down by the water to get the nutrition they need for egg production. When the chicks are born, they will NOT be able to fly away from threats as their parents can. This will separate the entire family placing the chicks at risk to fall to other prey, let alone a dog who think its a plush toy to play with.

An adult Bonaparte's Gull in its winter plumage, skims over the top of the waves at Jones Beach in Long Island, New York.. This gull is considered a small gull and are one of only five species of black headed gulls to exist. This adult is migrating where it will travel farther north to its breeding grounds.

The Bonaparte's Gull is the only gull that nests in trees!

A Burrowing Owl emerges out from its nesting hole from the ground with a surprised wide-eyed look at me laying there.

A great big thanks to Ken Lassman who took me to this special place where Burrowing Owls were. It was great to finally meet him. Ken has converted me to a Giant's fan now since he gave me his Giant's hat!

The juvenile Cooper's Hawk, also known as Accipiter cooperii hunted a pigeon and was eating his kill in my side yard beneath a tree against my house. He devoured the entire bird quickly.

This juvenile allowed me to lay on the ground and photograph him from 5 feet away. At times, I thought he may charge at me, but he continued until the only thing was left was feathers and bone.

The Yellow-rumped Warbler, also known as Dendroica coronata was quite curious when I made kissing sounds and came pretty darn close!

(By the way, I just had the emergency room doctor remove two deer ticks on the back of my neck. Great huh? I got these ticks laying in the sand and the grassy dunes taking photographs.)

I went to the Miami Metro Zoo and seen this Lar Gibbon (Hylobates lar) in the center of the display with her arms up hanging from a branch. This female had quite the personality and vocal cords. It appeared to be in competition with its shared neighbors "Siamangs".
