when she is away from the water, her mind tends to roll like the current back to the waves and the sand and the sun on her face.

a peaceful time where infinity is possible, time does not pass, and she can be one with nature.

it is moments like these that she realizes how wonderful the world is.

Jennifer was such a joy to photograph! She really has a fantastic outlook and demeanor. We talked before with my professor/mentor/advisor Dr. Jane Archer one evening about what we wanted some of the conceptual photos to become, and after learning of Jennifer's love for the water/sun/ocean, I knew I wanted to try this photo. I've still got some things to learn in regards to super imposing other images onto a main one, but I do like this. :)

the light had lifted down to the lake grounds, and she reached to touch it. the warmth of the beams encased her, enveloped her with tender, delicate arms. it was days like this that she remembered.

only in the sun does she find herself able to smile. it is the light that heals the darkness, the pain, the suffering, and on a whim, she reaches out and kisses it. lightly at first, and then engulfing it until she too becomes light.

as the clouds settled overhead, a roaring sound filled his ears. though of unknown origin, he had accepted this final resolution of the world, the failure of blues and greens conglomerating in a spectacular finish.

Companion piece to this photo.

This is some experimentation. Slightly influenced by Sarah Ann Loreth's painting series a tiny bit (though I didn't try to paint, but I did want a painterly quality. :)

she is a lady in waiting, and she's up with the dead. hands full of stationary ships that drift into bluffs and slide into cliffs. one evening she'll find herself face down like the hull, and maybe then someone will ship her off and she'll be noticed. maybe.

"i want to nest with you in our bed and sleep until the sun peeks between raceway clouds," he said.

this was before the storm, when the fog leaked in at night and took him away. now i'm stuck with only the map he left behind, completely unsure of which way is up. only the sunset can guide me.

footsteps leech into sand, but the ocean takes them away just as my foot etches its memory into the grains. sometimes, i think i hear his voice, calling. and i realize, it's only just a seagull's cry.

still, i will march on, determined, until we can build our nest again.

that dress? it's actually a piece of fabric from the thrift store that was 79 cents and one of alix's belts. :)

since he was a boy, he's journeyed to the sea. the salt sand, the seaweed ocean, and the foot prints that dissipated into thin air rafted him toward an infinite amount of happiness. now, as he skin sags, his heart flutters, and his life dwindles, the same water licks his feet, and he smiles, waiting for a fish to bite.

this photo was a complete accident. we had a shoot, and i was expanding the frame and meant to just take a photo of the sky, but i accidentally had alix in the frame. it was a great accident. :)

i'll be editing the final product later!

Part III of III

before me, whispering in the water, many ships sit. they bob, they float, they sink, they hold their breath. they are the manifestation of dreams, decisions, and choices. their skeletal frames litter the clouded water bottom, and despite the sun's rays, they are dreams crushed by the weight of a mind.

we stand, ships in hand. we know not where it will travel, nor who will accompany us on the voyage out and forward ever, but we do know that it, at some point, will reach the other side. then, and perhaps only then, will we be able to release a breath.

until then, hold fast, hold steady, and hold strong. the voyage will be rocky.

i have so many decisions to make, too many things to decide, and too many ships to sail.

Part 1 of a 3 part series.

We call the forest our home and live among pine beetles and shadowed caves. Gaia nurtured us through adolescence before setting us free to live in the wild. Untamed but natural we are waterfall goddesses. I have always been and am still your older sister. The rejuvenated river binds us together even when dusk threatens to separate you from me. Protecting you from rapids is an unsung responsibility, but you never understood. You climbed to tree tops to view blood orange cocktail sunsets and plunged into the depths of the sinkhole Earth. Now your face blends with the white specks that peek through moss-covered rocks. Your freckles are as soft as the soil beneath our feet. I grasp your arm, clinging to your body warmth, and try to keep you from floating down the braided stream.

Me and my three best friends, Alix, Sarah, and Adam, went to the river yesterday. It was very spur of the moment. When we got there, the road to the river was closed off so we had to park and walk way down to it.

We got there about six. It gets dark around eight. So we had to shoot with very, very, very limited light. We also had to walk/hike/run back up the river and longgg path in the pitch black night. We also saw a huge black snake that was scary as heck.

Anyways, a lot of my photos I took were extremely blurred because I had to shoot with a low shutter speed thanks to low light.

Thanks to my friend Adam for doing hair and dressing them!

Anyways, I am extremely pleased with how it turned out, and the processing is inspired by Karrah. I didn't realize she had inspired it until I had finished. It was subconscious. :)

Also, I love that you're able to see Alix's (right) tattoo. :)

P.S. These dresses are really curtains. :)

To Shed Your Skin

when the world has become enough, find the snatch of skin that is upturned and peel away the leftover marks made by society.

discard the reused words hashed over and over. sift through the broken follicles of disregard for human life and allow your blood to breath new air.

when you reach the bare and barren place that exists between muscle and existence, cleanse your self, remove the mask, and wash yourself clean of the stench society has paraded on you.

This makes me super uncomfortable. I was really unsure about posting this because, well, I'm nude. My family's probably going to see it. People I know will see it, etc. In the end though, I think that it's important to step outside of my comfort zone and to address the issue I've addressed. I won't explain it - if you read the italicized section you hopefully understood. Also, I kind of really don't care for it as a photograph, but I spent forever editing so I'm making myself post it. Ha.

Finally, thanks so much to the overwhelmingly positive and supportive response on my previous photo. It means the world. <3
