As I turned a corner along one of the wetland paths, I came across this guy wandering down the same path. When he saw me, he stepped off the path and froze. We observed one another for a few minutes before someone else wandered by us and he flew away.

My Lily Pond [Explored]

This shot of a great egret was taken in Santa Barbara, California. This was a pond at the hotel we stayed at...and this was the resident egret.

Wouldn't you know it...this is the first weekend that I actually had some time to go outdoors and shoot some photographs, but it is a very rainy weekend here in Southern California. Maybe I can figure out some rainy day shots.

I hope that everyone is well. I hope to catch up on Flickr a bit this weekend!

Great Egret

A Great Egret that was hanging around the lily pond/lagoon at the hotel we stayed at in Santa Barbara. He (she?) was so fun to watch from our balcony.

I wanted to thank everyone for the good wishes. We are coming out of a very serious health scare with my mom, but she is home now and seems to be improving a little everyday. Something like that really puts things into perspective real quick.

Anyway, I look forward to catching up with all of you and your photos in the coming days. I'll still be on and off some since there is still a lot to do here at home. I hope everyone is doing well.

This beautiful great egret walked alongside me for quite awhile this particular evening as I was walking around the wetlands. He was busy hunting for dinner while I was busy photographing him...it all worked out just fine.

A beautiful Great White Egret at the wetlands just as the sun was setting. This was over in the "bayou" area of the Bolsa Chica wetlands last November. There were a lot of birds out this day and this egret appeared to be the queen reigning over her people. I put a shot of all the birds in the comments section below.

So busy again this week! Hopefully will be catching up on Flickr soon!

Mirror, Mirror

This photo immediately made me think of "mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest egret of them all" I love the foot action in this particular one as well. This bird seemed to have a whole lot of personality.

Coming in for a Landing

Had an incredible day at the wetlands on Sunday and got some great captures of egrets, herons, osprey, terns, godwits...well, a lot of different birds! There may be a lot of bird photos coming up on my Flickr page.

The wetlands are in their full glory right now...the colors are amazing and it was a beautiful morning. This image is one of my favorites of a Great Egret coming in for a landing. I also love the little Willet (I think) in the foreground...and the other birds scattered about the area. Other than shooting this in vivid mode on my camera (which I almost always do), I used no color saturation for this image.
