Last evening small thunder storm bubble was off in the distance. Using the telephoto lens I was able to catch a bolt as it leaped from cloud to cloud.

When I first arrived on Mill Mountain the main overlook was packed. I drove down to second over look. A large family was snapping photos on overlook. I could see lightning off in the distance to the right thinking first overlook had better angle. I rushed back to first overlook. I stood behind the packed site seers on main overlook unpacking my tripod. A space cleared and I moved to the front of the overlook. Before I could get my camera on tripod the winds hit. The winds rushed up that mountain. It was wild and the tourist cleared out. I spent several minutes trying to get a shot but could not get camera working in the wild wind. I switched to video. It's a new camera function for me. [www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxoUYWNTEVE] So this video is still more the beginning of storm. Several folks did come by why I was on the overlook. Young folks stood and took some pics while I was taking video. I think they helped me not be so scared. I do not speak during video. My eyes are glued to the sky. Clouds looked wicked. Lightning and wind was fierce. Transformers were blowing and glowing all over. Video has sections of town dark and a small section of town on right of frame goes black toward the end of video. After video I try again to take photos. I am kneeling during each shot holding the legs of the tripod so it doesn't blow away. When it was over I had to drive under a fallen tree and around about 20 fallen trees on the road to get down from Mill Mountain. My home would be safe but power would remain out for 5 days.

Wind was wild! I had to brace myself to keep from being knocked down. I actually snapped two photos of this bolt of lightning with my quick new camera. The first shot was very blurry making this second shot not so blurry sweet. Lightning is very fun to try to capture.

Tripod got carried in from the car with the move home. Just the case in the car when I decided to stop unpacking and run to a garage top to catch some lightning. I used the tripod case and garage wall as my tripod.

First day of spring roars in with thunderstorm over the valley. Frustratingly fun! It does seem to happen (lightning) every time I am looking away, adjusting my camera or wiping rain drops from the lens . . . makes me want to cuss lol and feel great when I do catch it :) :)
