Natural Resting Place, Oxford

Quick posting to prove I'm not dead - just busy! Just experimenting with a 16mm Russian Fisheye I managed to pick up second hand for £49. Interestingly it tells the EXIF it is 50mm.

This is the best climbing tree I know of, in Oxford University Parks overlooking the cricket ground. I used to climb up here with set texts and other course readings in my days of undergraduate study. It's a decent place for a read. Certainly better than a library.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying life - look forward to catching up as a busy month winds down.

Three Kinds Of Liquid (Moon Reflected In Snowy Pool), Mill End

flatworldsedge posted a photo:

One from the same series as Meltwater (see comments). This was taken a few minutes later, once the colour had gone from the sky on the other side of the bridge. I turned around and the moon was coming up, reflected in the upstream pool. It's a vertorama - stitching a top and bottom to get the wider angle.

Went down here yesterday - very different scene, you might be surprised to hear.

By way of quick plug, I recently heard how jpgs degrade as you save them repeatedly. Not wanting to take the statement at face value, I did some experimenting, and you can see the results on my blog here. Quite interesting stuff, if you are interested in image quality - suffice to say an extra £1,000 on a better lens is undone by a couple of saves more than you need in post production.

Robin With Snow & Ivy, Rickmansworth

flatworldsedge posted a photo:

A shot of opportunity from a day out battling the snow yesterday. I was trying to do daytime light painting using a 9 stop ND filter, with the camera cloaked from the snow under a half kilo of elastic bands and plastic bags. Not the happiest human being due to the constant harassment of snow and with the experiment failing, I looked up to see this chap watching from just 2-3m off.

I probably looked pretty comic attempting to extract the camera from its bags, off the tripod, remove the 9 stop ND filter, get out of bulb mode, etc. without frightening him off. Still, he was a bold beast and remained through the whole wretched juggling act. This one is a close crop against ivy. There are some nice snow ones to come too.

Hope everyone's preparations for the coming week are going well, or, if you aren't celebrating Christmas, that you are surviving the media/Flickr blitz of attention it gets!

The feathers look nice in large!

Inevitable (Summer Colour), Bruges

This is what the world looked like just weeks ago! A fantastic (a real gem, much classier than this) shot of Ikonoki's - www.flickr.com/photos/ikonoki/5148150436/in/gallery-flatw... - got me thinking how green the world was just weeks ago.

So I thought I would quickly post this shot from the summer too. Needed to get some green back into my last run of B&W and sunset shots. This is in Bruges along the canals, taken on a lovely summer's day whilst waiting for the ferry home. Hope everyone is having a great start to the weekend.

Hiking shot from a few summers ago, revitalised with Lightroom 3 the demo version of which I've been playing around with this morning. Cropped out some blurred dry stone wall at the foot of the image, and added a grad filter which has compromised the tip of the tree slightly, but I think it's worth it. Really an experiment with PP.
