My youngest daughter and I traveled into DC this Memorial Day weekend and visited all the memorials. At the Vietnam Veterans Memorial the inscribed names of the more than 58,000 killed or missing is especially moving. This year she picked one name at random and we said a prayer for him; John Joseph Shorter. When we came home we did some research and found out he was from Glen Burnie Maryland. He was born on 23 Feb 1947 and was killed in action at age 21 on June 23 1968; he was a Private First Class in the USMC. This Memorial Day weekend we are especially thankful for John J. Shorter and all of the men and women who have sacrificed their lives in the service of our great nation.
