A rainforest stream

Jen's Photography posted a photo:

Still trying to catch up from this 5 day trek (2 days were travel days) to a tropical rainforest in Gamboa Panama. When my daughter first suggested this trip I thought "honey, do I really have to meet you in a rainforest?" Once I arrived and saw the full landscape I totally understood why she wanted to do this and I may have to spend the rest of my life thanking her for it!*

One of my favorite experiences from this trip was finding this patch of the off road jungle stream and sneaking into it's wilderness. I wouldn't go alone for fear of any exotic thing back there so 2 of our party accompanied me. While I waited for them to join me I looked down along side a small tree and saw what was unmistakably the shell of a turtle. I moved aside a little green plant and indeed saw a living yellowish turtle quite hiding with it's muddy self! Sally and Matt came in and Matt headed right for the stream and Sally picked up the turtle! I saw a oddest Leaf Litter Toad hop by... Also yellowish but it's head was brown and angled and it looked like a dried leaf. Even though my daughter warned me the left rubber boot (as we were all wearing boots) leaked a bit I happily followed the gang down the shallow, clear, orange sand based stream. Yum! I LOVE streams.*

There was a few animals I really wanted to see in the wild this rainforest trip... I would have LOVED to see a sloth (but didn't) and I wanted so much to see these odd, beautiful, tropical frogs. Only 5 were previously spotted by this science crew so this number 6 was lucky, thanks to my daughters great eyes and her science chum Lynn's hands!* She saw it (and it's teeny-weenie) on a fallen tree then went in after it. If course it hid for the longest time but when it came out Lynn got it (almost at the detriment of her camera lense that went crashing into a log!). :)
