The former Vogel Chevrolet Showroom at 1616 I Street in Sacramento was completed in 1959. It was a sales showroom and offices for a retail automobile dealer, constructed on a limited site as an addition to an existing shop-warehouse building. The building covers 4,500 square feet on the ground floor and has 1,350 square feet on the mezzanine.

In 1963 we created the master plan for the Ancil Hoffman Park for the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. The park forms a part of the American River Parkway which is a continuing series of parks connecting 23 miles on the American River. Ancil Hoffman Park was carved from a large ranch covering a considerably greater area. The park is part of the flood plain of the American River. Hundreds of acres of the ranch were dedicated to farming in the park's previous life. Most important in our master plan was to preserve the area's unspoiled native vegetation for nature trails, nature studies and picnics. The planning team carefully considered all the reclamation opportunities available for this flat treeless area. The ultimate solution was the tuck the golf course into the fallow fields abutting the bluff. Knowledgeable of the river's approximate elevation at the maximum channel capacity, the clubhouse, nature center and other buildings were safely sited on the higher, agricultural grounds. This ecological scheme not only preserved all river areas and nature areas, but also protected the developed site from the periodic flooding of the American River.

Osmund & Stately Landscape Architects assisted us in the development of the Ancil Hoffman Park.

Asclepius Medical Building

The Asclepius Medical Building at 5120 J Street in Sacramento was completed in 1964. It contains 7 medical suites and was designed for client Dr. John Babich, a pediatrician. The site is an interior lot on a busy city street. The parking lot is recessed below the street to reduce its impact on the building and the surrounding residential area. The project originally included a bronze sculpture cast locally by artist Helen Post, a personal friend of the client's family. It depicts Asclepius killing pain.

Received Masonry Institute Honor Award, 1964.

Suspended over the precast concrete structure, a louvered shade screen veils the building from the street and creates privacy for the adjacent patient rooms. Made of over four thousand extruded aluminum fins, each blade is rotated at a distinct angle designed to reflect light inside the structure and create a gentle textured facade above the street.
