Riding on the Metro

Been lazy with photography since I got back from the China trip. I need to go thru all my images and form a blog post. Until then here is one of the images from my trip. It was taken on the subway going from Hong Kong Disneyland into the city. I also need to shoot this year's family christmas card. Hope everyone is doing well!

Day 7: Xi'an - City Wall

This wall was built during the Ming Dynasty to fortify Xi'an (the old capitol of china). It 39-52 feet wide and is 16 miles long which encompasses the city. You can even rent bicycles and bike around the whole thing.

This image was taken on the Great wall of China. I did get pictures of the wall itself but since we were on a narrower part I didn't think it looked as impressive as this tower. We are headed to Xi'an tomorrow.

At night venders set up the Night Market here in northern Beijing where they sell all sorts of food like friend spiders and millipedes. I'll post some images of of those later on instagram.

Autumn 2012

Autumn is here, yet it still feels like summer.

A little update, as I haven't posted in a while. Looks like I'm going to Hong Kong & China this month for work. I need to setup my laptop with editing software as I plan to update my blog & flickr during the trip with images. I also still want to try to fit in a portrait session before I leave. Hopefully I can pull that off. If anyone has suggestions on thing to do or see in Hong Kong / China, let me know!

If you follow me on instrgram you will also know that I have started biking and playing drums again. I picked up an electric drum set at the Thrift Store. It was dusty but was in very good condition. My cousin also gave me his vintage Bianchi Road bike which I have been converting into a single speed. So many hobbies taking me away from photography....I won't even mention the new WoW expansion :)

If you are ever in the Los Angeles area and not a vegetarian, make sure you stop by Umami Burger. They look small but they are really filling. The one pictured above is the Manly Burger, but I suggest the Truffle Burger....so good!

Couple weeks back I mentioned that I went down to Santa Monica with the Design Team. Aaron (pictured above) who is not only a photographer also does vidoes. He filmed the day and posted a little video up on vimeo: vimeo.com/38003300

This shot as taken that day with the 50mm as Aaron was taking a break. Notice my old Nikon lens mounted on his canon :)

No faux tilt shift or photoshopping here, just some good ol' selective focusing to add an interesting perspective. Taken last friday when I was down in Santa Monica. Since I sent my 14mm in to get repaired I brought the 24mm, which has been neglected.

I want to shoot more portraits.

Tiffany Fontaine - Natural Light

Some of you might remember the one light shot I took of Tiffany back in Nov:

Prior to that we did some walking around shots & was able to test my new 50mm 1.4G in natural light. Since several of you asked, I grabbed several of my favorites and made this triptych. Overall I'm much happier with the 1.4g over the 1.4d. The only downside is the focus is slower than the older version. Also I'm realizing I'm not a big fan of nikon's newer plastic feeling design without the aperature ring.

Reflect

Taken last week in San Diego. I initially planned a portrait using a flash. I setup my stuff then when I went to look for my flash it wasn't there. I decided to rock the natural light. In some of the shots (this one)....I played around with shooting thru the glass door which showed the reflection of the christmas tree which was setup in the room. The tones of this image was mostly as a result of the natural light...only minor tweaks in LR.

2011 For me was a lazy year as far as photography. Not a total loss as I took probably my favorite picture/portrait in 2011. This year I want to be more intentional about getting out and shooting more. More doing and less thinking.

PS: I later found my flash in another bag

In San Diego with Rosalie for a couple of days. I'm always looking for more images for my Cafe/Resturant set. We stopped here to have breakfast here yesterday. We are going back today. I guess they have a Banana/Peanut Butter french toast which Bobby Flay mentions on "The Best thing I ever Ate", which I will try today. (notice the guy in the kitchen)

All my resturant shots are taken covertly.....I'm a photo ninja! HBW!

Santa Monica Pier

From a trip I took couple weeks back with the family. I thought this image captured the feel of a southen california summer afternoon. The pier itself started at as 2 seperate peirs build in the early 1900's. Around the 1920 the Ferris Wheel was added. It definetly has that nastalgic feeling of the early boardwalks on the east coast.

I've been itching to shoot some portraits. Seems like forever since I did one. If anyone has a shoot in my area let me know if they don't mind me tagging a long.

Astor Place - Subway / NYC

Going thru my NYC pics from several months back. For the most part I ony used one lense the whole trip...the sigam 28mm f1.8. This was one of few which I used the wider angle 14mm. Since it won't be gonig into my NYC blog set, I decided to put it up. This is also a portrait of a follow flickr friend .ƒrank, who came down and met up with us. Hopefully soon I'll get the full post up.
