Sigma 14mm F2.8...Farewell

"The Beverly Wilshire Hotel is a historic hotel located at 9500 Wilshire Boulevard on the east side of South Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California.

The Beverly Wilshire was one of the filming locations for the 1990 movie Pretty Woman."

Day 9: Li River

The Li River originates in the Mao'er Mountains in Xing'an County and flows in the general southern direction through Guilin, Yangshuo and Pingle. The 437-kilometer course of the Li and Gui Rivers is flanked by green hills. Cormorant fishing is often associated with the Lijiang (see bird intelligence). Its unusual karst topography hillsides have often been compared to those at Halong Bay, Vietnam.

The home stretch….we are heading to Shanghai today for a few days. As excited as I am to see the city, I am missing my wife and kids and am ready to head home and snuggle with them all weekend.

Day 8: Guilin

The landscape of this area is beautiful. They have tons of these unique mountain everywhere. Definitely nice to get out of the city. Guilin has a population of around 800,000 compared to Beijing which has 22 million. I would definitely recommend visiting this city.

Day 7: Xi'an - City Wall

This wall was built during the Ming Dynasty to fortify Xi'an (the old capitol of china). It 39-52 feet wide and is 16 miles long which encompasses the city. You can even rent bicycles and bike around the whole thing.

Nothing too exciting today. Was in the airport most the day. Arrived in Beijing this evening. Was able to get high up to get this shot. As big as this city is, their buildings are not as high as you would think. Heading into the center tomorrow.

This daily project is kind of rough when traveling as we get back pretty late. I don't really have time to go thru all my photos. I liked this area of Hong Kong. Everything looked like it belonged in the movie Blade Runner. Will be heading to Beijing tomorrow.

Day 1: Hong Kong Airport

For my trip I will attempt to do a photo a day. It's very odd for me to work my laptop as I do most all my editing on my desktop.

The first day we flew into Hong Kong. Nothing too exciting as we got in late. Took 3 shots at the airport and use photoshop's photomerge to stitch them together. I must say it did a decent job. This images was three 14mm shots, although not much was used from the middle frame.

Sadly Disneyland jacked up the prices of their annual pass by 80% and we opted not to renew. This was from one of our last trips.

Quick shot from my last trip to LA. I'm a sucker for when no people are in public spaces. Would have been nice to have a tripod, but was in a rush before someone walked into frame. Had to shoot at f2.8 to get a good shutter to hand hold.

On a postitive note, I did recieve a working Nikon D800. Hopefully I have something up soon with some thoughts on how it performs.

I was recently ask to post more of my faux T/S shots. I took a while a year ago, with the intent of posting it, but the shadows on the ground always bothered me. I've been itching to go back to NYC recently so I decided to share it anyways.

As for an update on the D800. I finally got one! Unfortunatly the AF was broke right out of the box so I had to send it back. I'm still waiting :/

Handsome Coffee Roasters

Went out to Handsome Coffee last week in LA. This girl with a cool bowler hat was sitting drinking her coffee. I decided to ninja a pic by sitting down and turning the camera. Caught at the perfect moment as she sipped her coffee.

I'm liking the new flickr format...the image is dynamic and scales with the browser. The main downside of this, the image looks soft. To see it sharp you must click on the image and view on black.

This probably has been the longest I have gone without posting. I haven't been shooting much with the DSLR. Been busy with taking in stray dogs and remodeling my kitchen. I have however been posting regularly via instagram (user name isayx3). Next week I will be in Chicago so I should be getting new photos..and hopefully something for a new blog post.

Another shot from NYC. I like how the Empire State building is poking out at the end. As mention before the set I'm putting together is mainly from the sigma 28mm so I'm posted the few 14mm shots which won't be a part of that set. Single exposure (just in case anyone is wondering)

Going thru my NYC pics from several months back. For the most part I ony used one lense the whole trip...the sigam 28mm f1.8. This was one of few which I used the wider angle 14mm. Since it won't be gonig into my NYC blog set, I decided to put it up. This is also a portrait of a follow flickr friend .ƒrank, who came down and met up with us. Hopefully soon I'll get the full post up.

Couple weeks back Rosalie and I was out in the city. One of our stops was the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (aka LACMA). It was really cool to be there mid week...as you can see, it wasn't very busy.

Late Monday night while in LA, against the wishes of my wife, I went venturing out to take some shots. I wasn't really worried except for the fact the D3 looks like a very expensive piece of equipment. To make situations worse, I didn't have a tripod. With a tripod you see someone coming you can just dismount it..and be on your way. I only had a small light stand, so I had to sit there screwing the camera body on. Lets just say I was a tad nervous. The exposure took about 30 seconds. I think it could have came out a tad bit sharper if i had a tripod. The light stand really isnt made for a heavy camera body. In the end I got a shot that I always wanted to try!

I have a bunch of images from LA and New York. I'm probably going to gather all the NYC pics and compile them into one blog post. Lets see when I get around to that.

Taken about 2 hours ago, around 1am right after we got here. It's really cold! This is one shot and edited in LR on this laptop which I have never edited on. It feels odd editing on something other than my desktop.
