A torch burns for six turns. A d6 makes a good counter. You can put it on the character sheet of the PC carrying the torch. Every turn, you turn it to show one fewer turn remaining. If it changes hands, you move the die.

What about those other weird dice? Well, a lantern lasts for 24 turns, see…

I bought ¾" wooden discs to use as miniatures on the D&D battle map, and it has worked well for years. I label the PC tokens with the character's initials, and enemies were numbered. Sometimes, though, it would get hard to remember that "5" was the boss. If we had a bunch of enemies on the board, it got even worse, and at one point I lost my mind and used Greek letters. ("Hey, is that a capital upsilon or a small gamma?")

Eventually I found that coloring one or two tokens in with our whiteboard markers was really helpful. Today, I dug out my acrylics and painted a few sets of tokens. Later, I'll number them. The players will be able to say, "I move to flank Blue 3 and attack him."

I made little quick reference cards for each PC, and will use index cards or other scraps for monsters. They'll get organized in initiative order -- I ordered some new magnets with pinch clips so that I can keep them in the clips all the time.

The whiteboard backing is useful for, say, marking bloodied or dazed, or temporary bonuses, or whatever.

Nearly there! I realized that I wanted to put the 11x17 board in portrait orientation to hold the quick ref cards in initiative order, which meant I wanted the cards to be wide, rather than tall. The only big change I made after this was to move the whitespace (here seen under REF and WILL saves) up to the top, so that the magnet that will hold the card can go there, and not block anything important.

I scaled the card down a little to get two on a page, which seemed like a good idea, since I want to fit a bunch of these on a small board later.

I want cards that show me, at a glance, all the PCs' passive skill checks and defenses, so that I can stop asking them to remind me every round.

Those panels are Tact-Tiles, which sadly are no longer made. Sometimes they show up on eBay for extraordinary sums. Mine were a gift from my awesome wife.
