A F-4 Phantom, on board the flight deck of the USS Midway museum in San Diego Harbor.

You see so many shots of planes head on so I was trying to find a new perspective. I ended up going with this over the wing shot looking back at the cockpit.

During a recent conference in San Diego, I had the pleasure of staying at the Manchester Grand Hyatt - a great hotel right on the harbor. Being from Minneapolis, I'm certainly not used to multiple overflights a day from Navy Blackhawks : )

I was trying all week to get a great shot; it took going to the middle of the harbor to get it. I was able to snag this using while on a harbor cruise using my long lens - the lighting really lit up the details on the fuselage.

...annnnd FIGHT!

St. Augustine's Light House has been in active operation since 1874. Interestingly, each light house has a different frequency at which the light flashes and individual paint schemes, so that passing ships can identify their location.

The Minnesota State Fair is one of those places that no matter how many times you go, you still tend to find a surprise, big or small, around every corner. This year I found 3 amateur acrobats leaping off of a 20 ft platform and performing various gravity defying flips onto a trampoline below.

Ok, so there was some minor risk involved in getting these shots, but it's tough to shoot lightning without a little risk right? I figured that since my wife was yelling for me to photograph a tornado I was ok standing lakeside to capture a little cloud to cloud action over the lake.

Fireworks over Cross Lake

The town of Crosslake puts on a great fourth of July fireworks show over its namesake lake every year, and I was resolved to capture more than just a fleeting explosion this year! I took a series of 6 to 20 sec exposures, but I really like the way this one turned out.

The smaller lights below the fireworks are hundreds of boats! The Whitefish chain of lake are all connected by channels, and boaters from all over turn out to watch the fireworks go off right over their heads.
