The Diamantina is a ship in permanent dry dock at the Queensland Maritime Museum.

The Diamantina is a ship presented as a memorial to Australian Naval Personnel who served in World War II (1939-45). She is intentionally significant as the only surviving River Class frigate in the world - frigates that changed the course of history during the Battle of the Atlantic. The final surrender of WW II was signed aboard Diamantina at Ocean Island on 1 October 1945.

Cows and friends

Cattle Egrets feed on a wide range of prey, particularly insects, and are usually found with cattle and other large grazing and browsing animals where they catch small creatures disturbed by the mammals.They also pick cattle ticks straight off the cows, which I am sure the cows appreciate.

Well, Sunday is well and truly over here, but I found that looking at the cows grazing, was relaxing. Also, I love the fact that we can still find cows in paddocks out here in the 'burbs.

Attraction.
Well, firstly he is my husband. Secondly, the photos were taken at South Bank last night where we went for an attraction, the Riverfire display, but after a walk around and eating it got so crowded that we couldn't stand it so we left and went home before the fireworks. Must be getting old!

The trunk of the Soft Tree Fern (Dicksonia antarctica) is an accumulation of dead growth, bound together by the masses of roots that grow over and through it. This means transplanting can be carried out by cutting the stem off at ground level and replanting into a hole enriched with compost.

This spiral was slightly smaller than the palm of my hand.

Giant Fern

Giant Fern (Angiopteris evecta) fronds can grow to 4-5m in length. Australian indigenous people extract edible starch (sago) from the pith of this large fern while in Asia the rhizome is used for fever reduction.

The unwinding spiral pictured was nearly as large as my hand and the stem only about 1.5m in length. The stem to its left was much thicker and more than twice as long, so this one still had a lot of unwinding and growing to do.

No... it's not the rude finger! The Totem poles were originally commissioned for Expo 88 and were created by artist Lynne Moore using a chainsaw on ironbark trunks. After Expo 88, the Southbank Corporation donated the Totem poles to the Botanic Gardens where they now stand as silent sentinels over the lake and its backdrop of paperbarks.

This Bearded Dragon in the Roma St Parkland was about 45cm long, and had just eaten a piece of the poppy flower.
