An unkempt Class 31 - in late-BR 'Railfreight' livery - at Settle Junction, near Mearbeck, in autumn 1990.
On the far left, beyond the bridge, the farthest pair of tracks go to Settle station and the rest of the Settle and Carlisle line, and the tracks nearest the camera go to Giggleswick - and beyond..

BR Class 47 - in 'large logo' livery - has just passed Greenfield station, and is crossing Uppermill Viaduct in the late afternoon sun, in autumn 1990.
The restored Huddersfield Narrow Canal passes under the viaduct , through the centre arch..
Today, tree growth has partially obscured the view from here..

1990 - Tilbury AM2 at Stratford..

BR AM2 EMU - Class 302 - 302267 at Stratford in 1990.
These units were first introduced in 1958 on the Tilbury line from Fenchurch Street, and were refurbished in the early-80s.. Three units were later converted for Post Office use, and the remaining units were taken out of service in 1999.
Two driving trailers have been preserved, at the Mangapps Farm Railway Museum, in Essex.
Today, some of this location is part of the 2012 Olympic complex..

1990 - Coal Train at Tondu

Class 37 37698 on a coal train at Tondu, near Bridgend, in summer 1990.
Today, the signal box - and the GWR semaphore signals - are still there.
37698 was finally withdrawn in 2009, and scrapped in early 2010.

The last Class 26 was withdrawn by BR in 1993, and 13 have been preserved..

1990 - Semaphores and a 56 at Ely..

BR Class 56 56061 on a freight train at Ely, in summer 1990.
Most Class 56s had been withdrawn by 2004, but a few are still in use by the smaller UK rail operators.
5 have currently been preserved..
Today, the semaphore signals and signal box have gone, and the tracks through Ely station are electrified..
