I don't normally virtually photograph in black and white. Hypocritically, I don't think twice about using contemporary digital means to emulate old analog sounds when making music, and I have various rationales for that, but with digital photography my irrational attitude is that by not having to commit to shooting black and white upfront, by using it as a completely flexible post-processing, dehistoricizing effect, one's doing something a little bit silly. Sure, one can commit to black and white by shooting JPEGs, but why cut off one's nose to spite one's face?

Anyhow, my silly rationale for using black and white here was that I shot with my nine-year old camera's eleven- or 12-year old black and white effect selected, converted the RAW file using the even older software that came with the camera, which applied the effect the camera would have used if I'd shot a JPEG, and did no further processing. I'm not proud of my limited austerity, but there you have it
