St-Béat chasers

With the Tour de France on again I thought I'd like to reprise some of my images from last year, shot in the Pyrenees towards the end of one of the stages in the village of St-Béat, about 10k from the Spanish Border.

Here we see a trailing group of riders coming in some 9 minutes behind the leaders. Look how hard they are pushing though to catch up with the peloton though, which is a minute ahead of them. This comes after two massive climbs- the col de Portet d'Aspet and the col de Menté.

The front rider in the turqoise Astana shirt was part of the team which was withdrawn a few days later when Ukrainian rider Alexandre Vinokourouv was caught blood doping. Chasing him are a Gerolsteiner rider, a Predictor Lotto rider and another rider I can't identify

Tour de France 2007 Stage 15: Foix-Loudenvielle

Here we are in the Pyrenees towards the end of one of the mountain stages in the village of St-Béat, about 10k from the Spanish Border.

Here we see a group rolling along at the back of the the peloton, a good 8 minutes behind the leaders. On the left of the shot is a rider in a yellow and white Saunier Duval jersey - Oscar de la Fuente, I think, or perhaps David Millar.

Salman Agah, skate demo at Livingston concrete park 1992. According to my notes he was sponsored by Real at this time. I think the whole demo/tour was organised by Real. Not a perfect capture this one (he went quite big on this ollie but I only got him coming down), but I include it because Salman was a great skater- he had a burly style and went really big. Note the wrist cast- it had been broken repeatedly.

Clubhouse of the Panama Swimming Club on Whitley Bay promenade. Clubhouse is in use and has been since 1950, but it didn't feel that way on a bitter March Sunday afternoon. Seemingly the members swim all year round...
