Buttermere Blues

An overcast grey day @ Buttermere with the mist hanging ominously in a thick band across the fell tops. Although on a positive note, the lack of any wind made for some great reflections in the lake.
So Mark LJ , Ants , Tom & I duly headed to the top of the lake to grab a few shots of Fleetwith pike & Haystacks with the iconic Char hut just left of centre on the shoreline.

This is a spot I have walked many a time, but never taken the time to photograph. So even if the weather was a typical Lakeland murky day I still enjoyed the monotone challenge of the mornings outing :-))

A classic jetty picture taken last October @ Derwentwater. I have always liked this scene but the overcast dull colours never looked right in this picture so I decided to rework it into mono with Nik tools Silver efex pro.
By chance I recently met up with Gavin Dunbar www.flickr.com/photos/gavindunbar/ & seeing his excellent mono work has kindled an interest in mono photography in me :-)

Processed from .tif in Silver efex pro...
Neutral preset with + 100% structure for the bottom half of the scene
Neutral preset +50% structure and + 150% red filter for the sky

I also thought I would try one of these fancy dancy drop shadow borders to see if I liked it :-)

Super moon orb

I went out to catch the big full moon over Skiddaw in the lakes on Friday night & just couldn't resist spinning up an orb on the shoreline.
The skies nice & were clear on Friday night, but cloud arrived for Saturday night, so no shots to be had of the big full moon on that night :-/
I just managed to get a 30 second exposure to work with as the moon was so bright. I used a kood nd4 & a Lee 0.9 grad with all of the dark end of the grad over the lense.

Single exposure, nothing added or removed in photoshop. Adjustments made in ACR & minor levels, shaprening, crop in photoshop.

As we drove along the shore of Ullswater I noticed this fabulous sky line at the northern end of the lake & just had to pull over & take a quick pic.

After some searching on laterooms.com, Anne found us a nice little hotel for a one night stay in the lakes. So off we trooped to Keswick & had a lovely walk across Walla crag & down past Ashness bridge, then back along the lakeside to Keswick.
Then after getting checked in etc at the hotel, we went over to Portinscale for an evening meal in a pub not far from the marina (in right of shot)
The setting sun was just too good to miss & we walked down by the lake to this spot near the marina & looked back across the lake towards Walla crag, a perfect day out :-)

A relaxing couple of days away in the lake district & no rain for once !!! :-)))
Even though there was rain forcast for Monday the skies played ball & we had a stroll up Catbells & back around Derwentwater to Keswick.

Super moon over skiddaw

SUPERMOON: biggest full moon for almost two decades was due on the 19th March. I took this one on the 18th & it was pretty big that night too.
Sadly the 19th was far too cloudy to see the supermoon.
Taken at Bassenthwaite lake in Cumbria with Skiddaw mountain in the distance.
