Many days before work, I try to get a few shots of the Parakeets that hang out out at the mall. It's a fabulous way to start the day. They have such great personalities and are quite entertaining.

The Santa Ana Winds are blowing again, so we've had gorgeous sunny days in S.California. It makes for blue skies and short sleeved shirts. The Parakeets seem to enjoy the weather as well. I couldn't find them anywhere when it was overcast and drippy last week. But now that it's warm, they are out in full force, squawking up a storm!

Loud, yet Photogenic!

Native from east-central Peru to eastern Bolivia and northwestern Argentina, the Mitred Parakeet has taken up residence along the beach communities in the Los Angeles basin. Some were squawking in our ornamental date palm last night, which reminded me that I had some shots of them that I hadn't posted. They are very photogenic, but they are usually too high in trees to get good shots.

A flying toy bird!

Jerry, my husband, knows how much I enjoy taking photos of birds, so he was quick to tell me the parakeets had returned to the mall in Manhattan Beach. Yesterday at the Mall flocks of them were in the trees as were the crows. In fact the crows were harassing the parakeets, who didn't seem too bothered them.

As soon as I started photographing the parakeets, shoppers began to notice them. They didn't realize they were there even though they squawked loudly. It's as though the life in the trees and sky is invisible to others around!
