doctor mac

Bakerina posted a photo:

As I have pointed out in other fora, these doctoral robes do nobody (and no body) any favors. They're like chef's whites: you can be petite, "average," tiny or 6 1/2 feet tall; you can be thin as a bean, chubby as a samovar or somewhere in between the two, and yet, you will still look ridiculous in this outfit, because that's the nature of the outfit.

I have to say, I do like the velvet tams we were given (and which are ours to keep), as opposed to the boring old mortarboard. Between the robe, the hood and the tam, I felt like a magistrate from some clean, friendly, progressive European nation.
say cheese

Bakerina posted a photo:

People have already asked me "so where is Lloyd in these pictures?" Sorry to say, Lloyd is not as enamored of himself as I am of him, and over the years has developed a *thing* about how he looks in pictures. Having lived with this same *thing* for the better part of 15 years, I understand and I sympathize. But I'm still sad, because no one should go a day feeling that bad about themselves -- least of all Lloyd, who is my hero, because he kept me from eating nothing but saltines and Kraft Dinner for three years.

(Of course, I just received in my email a proof of the pic of me receiving my placeholder degree. "Not flattering" is putting it mildly. I think I went into a rage and compared myself to Fat Bastard in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. So I'm a moving target on this issue.)

You can see now why my mom's best friend's brother used to refer to her, in childhood, as "Eyes 'N' Teeth." It runs in the family. (This is not a bad thing. :)
