Ladybower

James G Photography posted a photo:

It's not often I will stick around after direct light ends. However on this evening I could see in the distance over Stanage Edge the sky was lighting up and I figured it would pass to me as the sun sun lower behind the hills.

I was right and the sky started to light up a treat, fortunately for once I was near water (Ladybower) which gives that crucial reflection of colour when direct light isn't falling.

This shot is taken from Derwent Edge looking down to Ladybower. To be honest, I've always wanted one of these reflective "lake" shots from up on the hills :)

While this shot isn't instantly recognisable I like the drama, composition and uniqueness of it.
Derwent Edge, near Whinstone Lee Tor

James G Photography posted a photo:

I wanted a peace and tranquillity shoot last Saturday as well as visiting somewhere less visited. So I headed up the lungbusting climb from Ladybower Inn to Derwent Edge, stopping just before Whinstone Lee Tor.

I chose to go out Saturday because it seemed a guaranteed sunset even if not spectacular would unfold. However, a persistant hazy bank of cloud looked to put end to that.

Just as I was giving up hope as you do, though thankful to be out the sun broke through the smallest of gaps between the clouds and Kinder Scout illuminating the landscape in a glorious golden glow. The composition isn't quite spot on, I was aware at the time but any more to the left and the sun was included.
Ladybower Plughole

James G Photography posted a photo:

So, another one from my edits on my calibrated monitor. Some of you may remember it from before, but this has a slightly better composition and sky to the one before. I also felt because I uploaded this with about another 100 when I changed to this account it got lost in the pile.

Anyway, it is a picture pre-dawn of the Ladybower Plughole, it is an bell-mouth overflow for the reservoir. It was taken in late winter when there was a lot of snow melt and it was so dark the exposure was about 15 seconds if I remember correctly.

A lot of people have commented on how surreal and other worldy it is. I just hope I have got something different to the many shots you see of this place.

Published in Reflections Magazine April 2011 to celebrate the Peak Districts 60th Birthday.
