James G Photography posted a photo:

I spend a lot of my time travelling places, walking long distances just to get a photo. It may be a surprise to you then that this photo was taken within a 5 minute walk from home. I had been meaning to catch bluebell images for some years now and never got around to it. After a busy saturday and no time to go out I decided to visit this little local patch at sunset, it was well worth the visit and I'm very pleased with it.

So...remember the hot weather? Yes I agree, it seems a distant memory. This was taken on the bank holiday Monday just gone at Windgather Rocks in Cheshires Part of the Peak District. The sunset wasn't amazing in fairness, clear skies and the golden light seemed to struggle through but I was pleased with this image with a very quirky composition. It's actually not looking at the main ridge but instead the other way down to Kettleshulme.

This is Lower Shelf Stones on Bleaklow. After photographing the aircrash site I decided to move on to catch the sun setting. I initially had a different composition set up for the side lighting but once the sun dropped below the cloud the light didn't come due to a little haze turning the sun red. As a consequence though it was easier to shoot in the sun and a weird but very subtle red light was cast on the landscape.
Bleaklow Crash

Something a little different from me, this is a picture of the airplane crash site on Bleaklow near Higher Shelf Stones. Of all my years exploring the Peak District i've never been here, though it had been on the agenda. It's not an easy place to find, with the turn off on the Pennine Way not being apparent at all. I initially missed it, which had me walking across groughs to finally get there but it was worth it. It was such an eerie place, the crash area was much larger than expected.

A little more about the crash "On 3 November 1948, USAF Boeing RB-29A Superfortress 44-61999, of the 16th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, 91st Reconnaissance Group, 311th Air Division, Strategic Air Command; crashed at Higher Shelf Stones, Bleaklow, whilst en route from Scampton to Burtonwood. All 13 crewmembers were killed. A large amount of wreckage is still visible, as a memorial to the crash. Also, a proper memorial was erected at the site in 1988."

Sunset from Fairbrook Naze on the Northern Edges of Kinder Scout, the walk up was pleasant enough rewarded by cracking views. I'd have liked some intenser light but there wasn't much I could do with the low bank of cloud.

This is another shot from Elgol I took another look at. When I was taking this shot I was well aware most aim for the more traditional shot of the side lighting with the Cuillins staying mainly on the left hand side of the frame, so I thought it'd be good to get a shot facing this way including the sun in the frame. I think I prefer the other one, mainly composition wise but I wouldn't say I disliked this one either.

I wasn't sure whether or not to post this one. It's not my usual style but I've looked at it a few times and I quite like the orange colour that flows through the frame plus I'm not sure how I could imrpove on it. This is the Isle Of Ornsay and it's lighthouse taken looking over to the Scottish Mainland. I was desperate to try a sunrise somewhere a little bit fresh and less overdone so this is why I headed here.

Oh yes....another star trails shot! This was actually taken from outside the hotel, I left the camera snapping away overnight while I had a sleep. This ended up being about 4 hours of trails as the clouds came in and it was sheer luck I got the pole star where it was.

This is Loch Cill Chriosd again AKA The Hairy Loch. This time it was shot in the morning on our return to the hotel after a sunrise over at the Isle Of Ornsay. I loved the deep reflections split up by the reeds, the Red Cuillin dominate the image with a snow capped Blaven sneaking in the distance to the left.

This is Bla Bheinn AKA Blaven on the shores of Loch Slapin , Torrin. This is possibly the most photogenic and shapely mountain on Skye and is also a fantastic walk. Loch Slapin isn't often calm enough for reflections being a sea loch so I made the most of it even though it wasn't in my preferred golden hour lighting.

This is a shot from Neist Point but excluding the classic location. This is looking back to Waterstein Head with in my opinion the best light we had all wekk. It started off intense and golden, slowly changing and getting richer and it dropped through each layer of cloud finally turning into a deep red which was almost unbelievable even to the naked eye. Was very pleased with it and I was running around like a kid snapping away which isn't my usual style!

This is Loch Cill Chriosd with Beinn na Caillich behind. I was just on the way to Ord to check out the location for sunset, thought it may have been a little different from the usual spots but there was such a weird light playing out plenty of time before sunset and I ended up pulling up and spending about 30 mins shooting the scenes on offer at the Loch. In the end, due to the diversion we ended up going to Elgol!

I did intend to go to Ord for sunset, for something a little different but after getting caught out on the way by some light that made us pull over we knew we wouldn't make it in time. We were perfectly based for Elgol, so after a bit of rush we made it and there was already some gorgeous light about. I decided to stop and grab a more classic shot from the pebbled beach with the cliff being lit up. The clouds were already turning orange with a slight haze in the air due to heather burning clouding the clarity.

This is Talisker Bay on the west of the Isle Of Skye. After wild campimg the night before I was pretty spent. However, I couldn't resist going out so thought this would be a nice location to take it easy. It was worth it though and one of the lovely things about Skye is you have mountains, lochs and the coast all within easy reach. I don't get chance to do coastal work often so it was also very welcome.

This is the Quiraing on the Isle Of Skye. A couple of people pointed out that the picture I posted yesterday was actually looking towards Cleat and seems to be a common misconception. This was taken from roughly the same spot but I just turned round to take a photo I haven't seen that much of. The sun was rising just in the gap between the clouds and adds a lot of drama to this scene giving some lovely rich colours and a dramatic look to a dramatic place.

This was our hotel near Kilbride on the Isle Of Skye. I decided one night to do some star trails from the house and left the camera going all night. Unfortunately, it clouded over about 2 hours in but it was still worth it.
